Never thought about removing the faceplate.
I considered running a wire directly to the battery to make it the same way a car stereo is installed- a constant voltage to keep the memory, clock, radio station presets, and tone control settings and a switched to power it on and off.
What I'm doing:
Every time I turn on the use/store switch and the radio comes on I just turn it off...
That may well be the very simplest solution...
I usually don't notice till after dark when I am ready to go to sleep that the "display mode" is on and it is flashing blue.
Sometimes I don't even notice this until 2-3 days at a campground...
Sometimes I never notice.
A better question in my mind is if there is any way to keep the clock setting on the microwave. I guess not really because every time you disconnect from 120 volts and reconnect to 120 volts the microwave clock starts again at 12 o'clock.
I never set the time correctly and just deal with the wrong time displaying.
We have our cell phones and the clock in the tow vehicle...
