We have a land tether system at home for the last 12yrs that works great.
I have not gone back to the satellite system as we do experience heavy weather at times and the satellite reception is compromised when that happens.
Our provider "SHAW" is just introducing a new satellite service that I believe is good North America wide. (
I would have to confirm that)
However, I don't watch a lot of TV and dislike paying for another service that I don't use much, so thought I would check out the FTA and then update from there if I wanted.
I picked up a CW800S box at the neighbouthood garage sale recently and hooked it up in the Clipper.
I was able to test the OEM dish installation and it tested OK, but I am still in the relearning process to get locked on to a satellite.
(
I am going to have to move the Clipper to the rear of the garage to clear the large trees to the south of my existing parking spot.)
I do need to do some more homework before I get to watch the test pattern.
And yes, it takes more time than its worth, but it it just another challenge right?

I an wondering how you receive the FTA signals. Obviously you need a receiver and a dish of some kind. Did you find any reference that talked about that?
