Finally replaced that crummy factory sub woofer....

Finally have some base! This little 10 pioneer with integrated amp does a fine job. I can actually hear the low end now. Tucked it into unused space under the couch where the inverter used to be.

$130 bucks well spent....

This is really helpful. Mine has been on the fritz for a long time. Now I know where to go.

Any leads on replacing the maddening Pioneer stereo?

Yes. I recommend the pioneer DA-120 with support for Bluetooth and apple CarPlay. Double DIN touch screen.

I paired that with Polk MM1 series speakers.

Here are details on a similar install (my other trailer that has since been sold)

Woof

I removed mine completely. Don't miss it. I don't play disc jockey while camping and I shoot at those who do.

Did a similar update underneath the recliner in the front. The factory amp was in a more roomy location and displaced due to battery install. The profile of the Kicker CompRT 43TCWRT82 (designed to fit under a rear truck seat) matches the clearance of the tilt reclining actuator slide perfectly. 8" active and 8" passive sub. Don't forget to install an amp, since the factory unit has a built in amp and this one does not. I used an Arc Audio KS125.2 BX2, which is designed for a motorcycle, so it is compact and is built to withstand vibration. The whole setup fits with little room to spare. The sound is outstanding. Time will tell if this will result in early failure of the recliner motor which sits near it. The install is easy, I used aluminum square tube to help support the new amp since it needs to bridge the top of the seat frame for clearance.

Replaced our sub with same Pioneer subwoofer

Hi,
I was also tired of trying to make the Collins subwoofer in our 2019 sound decent and went the same brand and model as you did. Unfortunately, that model has been discontinued so it was a search until I found a dealer with five left and he was asking $210.00 for it. But recommended so I went ahead and bought. Finally got to install it with the 110 degree heat wave and now fires in northern California, I had to wait a few weeks.

Ours went into our 2019 27 ft. Tommy Bahama. Same location, under dinette seating but it was obvious there was no way this sub was going to fit through the hole there. That meant I had to removed the top wooden platform for the dinette to fit inside. Then I figured out it would only go in upside down between the rear clip holding the pots/pan drawer locked and the back of the dinette by the hatch.

But I did get it in there and VERY happy with the enjoyment of real solid bass on any program on XM or spinning a CD. I set the active frequency down at 50 Hz and love the external bass boost/cut control for various programs. I have it adjusted so you have no idea where the bass is coming from, just that it's obvious there is weight to the music now.

Subwoofer Replacement

Hi. I'm trying to get my sound system up and running. Where was the original subwoofer located?

Thanks

If you have a rear bed model, it's under the driver side couch. You can access it through a trap door.

Where do you camp that you can actually use a subwoofer without disturbing your neighbors? I removed mine so that we could watch movies without the potentially obnoxious subwoofer low end. Not trying to be snarky, just had a couple of experiences where host shut down campers due to the "boom", so genuinely curious in that regard.

In my 2007 27FB I ripped out the Sony EXPLODE system, Samsung TV and all the AV wiring rats nest in the upper soffit near the door and replaced it with:
(1) Pioneer DEH-S4120BT Blue Tooth enabled receiver/player
(1) Kicker 11HS8 Subwoofer (Level control knob mounted underneath dinette seat for easy but hidden access)
(4) Kicker 43CSC654 replacement speakers for the 4 corners
(4) XTC 6-1/2" Speaker Baffles (Slim-line: 2-3/8" depth)
(1) in Wall Speaker Selector Switch - Home Audio 2-Channel A/B Dual Channel Speakers Controller
(1) Pyle 23.6" 1080p LED TV, Multimedia Disc Player, Ultra HD TV, LED Hi Res Widescreen Monitor w/HDMI Cable RCA Input, LED TV Monitor, Audio Streaming
(1) JBL Bar Studio (and bracket to hang below monitor for TV Audio)
I added my Apple TV 3rd generation (I have a 4th generation at home and they both work on my Apple Account)
Now I can stream my music, with or without subwoofer(variable), play music in the front or back of trailer or both (I wired the front and back Left / Right flipped so you get stereo outside if sitting under the awning with the bedroom window and entry door open). I also mounted the mic above the dinette so I can take calls as needed.
My TV is a DVD player, tuner and streaming TV and the sound comes from the sound bar mounted just below it. It's also LED so uses very little power.
I haven’t gotten adventurous enough to connect the sound bar output to the sub and pioneer to use the music speakers as surrounds. The Sound bar does a pretty good job at special audio and its great if the kids are watching something after I go to bed because the sound remains low and aimed directly at the viewers.

I always go outside to ck that my system isn't booming too loudly. The last place I camped at (Martin Dies), I asked the neighbor if he could hear my movie and he said that if he did he would have fired one over my bow.

They may have changed it, but in ours the subwoofer was always on, draining battery power. I put a switch in the 12 v. wire and turned it off. Never felt the need to turn it on and certainly didn't want to have it boom through a campground.

I have many other ways to annoy my neighbors, so the subwoofer was unnecessary.

I just bought the same one, as the Collins subwoofer died on last trip.

Of course, now I'm thinking of upgrading rest of system too... Thinking Focal ICU 165s for the four 6-1/2" speakers. I still have old pre-bluetooth Sony head unit, and connect via wires any source material.

If I upgrade the head unit, I'm debating the value of Apple Play, since it is in the trailer, not tow vehicle. Right now I have my entire music collection on my 160G iPod Classic that I just plug a mini-jack into. Maybe just getting bluetooth is sufficient.

Considering how many RV owners are seniors, maybe getting hearing aids before replacing the subwoofer is a better investment.
