Double DIN Stereo system

Hi, I did see another thread on this, but wondering if anybody recently has upgraded the clarion stereo with a double-din unit with XM Radio. We are big XM radio fans and want to add that to the camper. I know some units have ability to add xm-radio. I also wonder how difficult it will be to cut a double-din size hole in existing single DIN.

So, any recommendations on the radio to get? Was thinking Kenwood, Alpine or Pioneer. And any best practices or gotchas on cutting making the opening fit a double din.. (2016 AS FC 19ft)

Double DIN Stereo system

Here is a write up I did on a double DIN install... I’ve done this twice - once on my 2008 and again on my 2017.

I am currently running a pioneer SPA-DA120 (app radio). Works great for me and supports XM and Apple car play.

My antenna is in the front window below the unit, hidden by the curtain, along with my WiFi/LTE internet equipment.

Pioneer app radio 4....

Pioneer renamed the spa-da120... this is the current version-

While you are at it- for sure upgrade your speakers... and the sub too... here is a thread on subwoofer replacement / install... even a cheap $130 powered 10” sub makes a massive difference compared to the $25 unit installed at the factory.

yeah, I figured the stock speakers and sub were probably cheap.. A bit surprising for what you pay for the Airstream, but maybe they put money into more critical areas..ie. construction, appliances, et.

I assume replacing the sub is straightforward.. Do you need to run any new wires or can you just swap out the sub and use existing wires, plugs..

I just swapped out the box. Same wires. Depends on the sub you buy - I matched mine to the power available.
