Decent No Cut Install $115 Backup Camera

Hey guys,

Having been spoilt by the ease of hitching provided by the backup camera in our Toyota Highlander I've been on the look out for a cheap ~$100 backup / hitch camera.

Since we're planning to upgrade the truck soon I was really looking for a no-cut device that I could move around easily from vehicle to vehicle.

After searching the net I finally found a decent solution on Amazon for $115....

Master Lock 4843DATSEN Vehicle Back Up and Hitch Alignment Camera with 3.5 Inch Color Monitor

Amazon.com: Master Lock 4843DATSEN Vehicle Back Up and Hitch Alignment Camera with 3.5 Inch Color Monitor: Automotive

Here's a video review that sold me...
Amazon.com: Joseph Brown "Tool guy"'s review of Master Lock 4843DATSEN Vehicle Back Up and...

The unit is pretty solid, the view is acceptable for hitching and it installs in seconds as the camera gets it's power from the trailer plug.

Eastern South Dakota is very pretty with hills, rivers, and trees.

Thumbs up Thanks! Perfect

Thanks Dave! I just bought one! Exactly what I need for the new F-350 longbed Crew Cab DRW I just bought (hope I don't destroy my AS with the TV...although I did recently purchase the Airsafe hitch).

The camera also has a magnetic base so it can be attached anywhere on the bumper or tailgate.

Magnet

As Dave stated, I attached the camara, with the magnetic base, to the tailgate. I works perfectly and is a great resource when I'm traveling solo

Make sure you test one out or at least buy from someone with a good return policy. My crew cab dually chevy is so long that I tried four different wireless cameras before giving up and buying a wired setup. All of the wireless ones would only work reliably with the camera perched on top of the tailgate.

Journalist,
Good comment. The further away the lower the image quality on a wireless setup. You get image roll & "snow" on the screen. On my unit when I hold the 3.5" monitor up away from the dash or console, the image improves. Since I only use it to hookup and that is the only time I plug in the monitor, I can live with that issue. Otherwise the monitor is in the console.

FYI, the link now goes to the unit at the price of $164.85

At least, that's what I get. I have noticed funny things about Amazon since I live in Canada. I can't buy from the .com version of Amazon, and the .ca version is often a lot more money for the same item, if it's even available at all on it.
