Dang It - Antenna Woes!!

Dang It!!! Antenna Woes
Dang it.....I made a very stupid mistake yesterday. I was backing the Airstream into it's storage shelter and didn't pay attention to see that the door had slid down a bit on the storage shelter. It snagged the round tv antenna and snapped it off. It's the Omni Directional Antenna. It looks like there is a crack in the stem part and it's still connected to the cable. I was so mad at myself that I just quit for the day and went inside and pouted.

Anyway, I don't know if I can repair and re-attach the stem to whatever it attaches to or if I have to take it in for repairs or if I can put a new one up there myself.

Any input/advice is welcome

Probably should replace it. Any RV shop or Camping World if one in in your area. Don't be upset, I've seen much worse on new RVs.

What a bummer! Given the integral way the internal pieces & components are assembled in the casing, you most likely need to replace the whole mast. It is not hard or even difficult (if you are handy) and it may be cheaper to source a whole new unit via the net. Be sure to use sealant and you should be done within the hour if there is no damage to the metal on the roof.

I did that last year and broke one square tube on the mask. I took the Antenna down, disassembled it and took the one square tube that was broken Lowes. I found the same size square tube, bought it, drilled holes in it to match the one I broke and installed it. It works great.

Great advice.....thanks!

I wasn't able to get up on top and take pictures last evening. Am going to try again this evening. Meanwhile, I checked with Winegard and they can sell me just the top round part if that is all I end up needing.

I got the ladder out and got up on the roof last night to assess the damage. Only the plastic stem on the actual antenna is cracked. The metal base is fine. I am able to order the antenna part without the base for around $54 and will do the repairs when the part arrives. I will definitely be more careful in the future!

From later posts it appears you survived the high-wire act? How is the antenna?

It was easier than I thought to get up on the roof. Stayed on the rivet lines. I got the old one off, connected the cable for the new one and got it installed to the first scribe line on the mast. For the life of me, I am not able to get it to snap down to the second scribe line as per the instructions. I called the manufacturer and they said I may need to take it in or have a mobile service come out. I can't pull the new antenna off or get it to snap down to the scribe line. I will try again one evening this week. I had run out of time and daylight on the first try.

you might be able to work on the mast from just the ladder by lowering the antenna so it hangs over the side of the trailer.

Thanks Richinny....I actually have it installed back on the mast. It won't come back off or snap down the rest of the way. It may take more force. The directions say to push down hard while turning it and wait to hear the snap of it seating on the mast. There are two scribe lines....both need to be covered after it is seated on the mast. One is still showing. I have made it this far....I will win this one
