Clarion fell in

I may have inadvertently posted this in the wrong sub-forum (darn newbie) so I'll try again...

So as we were driving home our spanking new 23FB the bouncing around caused the Clarion stereo, which mounts to the face of an upper cabinet to detach from its metal "shroud" and fall inside the cabinet, to which there is apparently no access, aside from the cutout for the stereo. With some work we were able to fish it back out through the opening, pull out the "shroud" and re-install. The whole thing rocks up and down in the cutout due to it being fairly heavy and having no support whatsoever aside from the cutout itself, and this in turn causes the plastic bezel to keep popping off.

I'm thinking I may try building up some kind of a shelf to support it from underneath, inside the cabinet, by putting strips through the cutout and laminating them up to the appropriate height. Anyone with similar issues with the stereo have any good fixes?

Make sure the sleeve "cutouts" interlock behind the mounting hole...sounds like that tabs were not properly pressed to "lock" the sleeve into the support structure. No shelf needed, the sleeve will free suspend the radio body just like when installed in a car!

Watch this video:

What i describe starts at time index 3:50/6:23

LMK how it goes.

Thanks for researching this and posting the YouTube, Chris. The metal sleeve was slightly loose in the cabinet cutout, even with the retaining tabs bent over. I drilled holes in the sleeve and drove small flathead screws through the sleeve into the sides of the cabinet cutout. Now it is very secure. I also inserted thin plastic strips behind the two side locks in the sleeve that “click” into the receiver that will keep them in place. While at it, with the receiver removed, I also bundled the various wires and cables into flex tubing to provide better chafe protection at the point where they went out the rear of the cabinet and trough the inner skin. All good now.

Welcome Aboard!! 👍

Our itty-bitty Sony did the same thing 15yrs ago...😳...not locked in.
also with the no access housing. Consistency? 😂

EDIT: Sounds like you got it handled. Kudos.

If you remove a speaker from underneath that should give you some access to the mounting area. But for now, given it's a 2018, I would opt for a warranty fix...making sure they open the whole thing up and properly secure the chassis.

I solved the problem with a jigsaw. I cut a larger opening and replaced the clarion with a proper double DIN touch screen system with Apple car play and other goodies
