Anyone ever seen one of these audio connectors?
I recently purchased a 1973 Tradewind and noticed this cable/connector under the control panel in the front. I've owned a few vintage Airstreams but have never seen one of these. Does anyone know what it is? I assumed it's an old headphone jack for the speakers but tried it and it doesn't work. Curious if anyone has any expertise with this! Thanks in advance!

That looks like an old style AM radio antenna connector (automotive).

Definitely for antenna. You could possibly repurpose it for wifi or HD broadcast TV.

Motorola antenna connector, common with car stereo equipment. Think AM/FM antenna.

Thanks all for the replies!
I'm assuming it was plugged into the original radio that used to be mounted under the control panel?
What can I use it for now? Can I repurpose it/change it's function? I'd like to be able to use the speakers in my Airstream.

speakers
Your speaker wire ends should be near the same area as the antenna wire.
I still like my FM radio

No doubt

Install a new radio with blue tooth and aux in. Can stream music from phone, get blue tooth adapter for TV or wire to TV
Can I repurpose it/change it's function?
Maybe use for TV antenna or WIFI antenna, might not work, poor design for this.

Yep, there's an antenna mounted to the roof. So I'm assuming it's connected to that. Should I keep it? I'm trying to figure out a way to use my speakers for music etc, but don't necessarily want an old school am/fm radio.

Thanks! If I install a new radio, will I need to find one that would plug into that cable that's coming out of the control panel? Should I keep the antenna that's currently mounted to the top of the Airstream? Would a new radio play directly through the speakers?

I haven't looked at new radios for quite a while so I don't know if that is still a standard connector or not. If you get a radio with that plug your current antenna should work. You need to find and connect the speaker wires for them to work the wires were there when your trailer was built, they didn't have wireless speakers 40+ years ago.

That is still the standard. There was a time that some car manufactures decided to change the game a bit, but it didn't last long..

Thanks for the help! That makes sense. So the speaker wires should've been coming out of that same spot as they would've been connected to the original radio? How would a new radio get power? Does that cable/connector that's there also supply power?
