Any audiophiles among us?

I always see posts from AIR members regarding video and TV issues, but being an audio whore... and audio guys here? I'm a vacuum tube nut, any others?

I wonder if I'm the only one with 30 ips 10" open reel on board?

My brother is big into the tube stuff. He has a complete system called "The Fisher" that dates to around 1963.

Me? I thought MP3 was a godsend. I can carry my entire collection of music with me in my pocket.

My hearing is less than perfect so sound quality past a certain point doesn't do much for me.

Audiophile

Hi:

Yes I am for past 50 years. Attended my first hi-fi show in 1958 at age seven. Mostly tube gear as well. Pair of McIntosh MC60 power amps driving a pair of Quad ESL-63's. McIntosh MC240 spare amp. Audio Research SP-8 MKIV preamp. Linn-Sondek LP-12 turntable. McIntosh MR-71 and MR-78 tuners as well as a Marantz 10B. Two Nakamichi cassette decks 670ZX and CR-7A. Three Revox reel-to-reel decks A-77 MKIV, B-77 MKI, PR-99 and a Studer A807, my 30 ips machine. That's the main system in living room.

I also collect antique console radios. My most prized is a 1946 E.H. Scott 800B console. Only 2,500 made between 1946 and 1950 when the company went under. Original cost in 1946 was $1,500 or the price of a new Chevrolet. Took me 10 years to find this one in Redmond, WA so drove 1,000 miles to pick it up.

I have been an audiofile since graduating college in 1980, I enjoy following the trends. I have had separates since then. I cannot afford the top of the line (who can? $100's of thousands). So I have the poor man's audiofile system from NAD (Preamp, Power amp, Tuner, CD Player, and Turntable). Plus a Nakamichi (482Z) casette deck. Speakers are M&K with subwoofer.

I agree totally! I was an audiophile in my youth....that's why I can't hear too well now, I think.

Not really a Phile, but the music at home must be at least listenable...the portable stuff not so much.

Beogram 4004 T/T

901 Series VI

Pioneer VSX-D1S

The best so far for 'Cloudsplitter" has been the Bose Wave System, nothing fancy but pretty good sound for the AS.

Thats it...
