Replace oven or just a stove top?
Hello everyone,
We are renovating a 1976 Airstream and we are replacing all of the appliances. We are contemplating just getting a cook top and not a cook top/oven unit.We are going to sell this Airstream...my question, do you think just a cook top is acceptable or do you feel that an oven is an important option to have?
I greatly appreciate your feedback.
Betsy

We use our oven a great deal. Very glad it works so well. I use it for dinner prep quite a bit. (and the occasional cookie)

I've seen more vintage stoves where the ovens had limited use. We had friends who just purchased a 55 FC and the first thing they asked me was where they could place a microwave. We renovated a 66 and I placed a cooktop with a microwave below where the oven would be located. In our 55 we're renovating, we will have the original Princes stove with oven. In short, it's preference of the owners. Hope this wasn't more confusing. Good luck whatever you do.

Oven
We use our oven - but only to store the toaster. I would LOVE to get rid of that waste of space and use it for either storage or for a microwave.
I used the oven exactly once, and it created a LOT of heat in the areas next to it, so I never used it again.

Our Safari and now our Classic had/have cooktops and convection microwaves. We were wishing for an oven at first so we could have an oven if there was no shore power. So far, in three years we have camped once without shore power and we are pleased with the performance of the Sharp Convection/Microwave.
One caution - make sure you can read the display in your mounting location. In our Safari it was below the cooktop and we had to get down on our knees in front of it to read the display.

If you Boondock and you want to warm or cook a casserole or the like, you need an oven. If you intend to have a generator then you could get away with a Microwave or Convection oven. Many new RVs only have cook tops..cost cutting measure, since everyone expects a microwave so they can get away with out providing an oven. Our '89 was 15 years old when we purchased it...Oven was brand new...never even fired up in 15 years. We used it a lot, so think about resale also.

We have a 30 FC with stovetop only and a Micro/Convection. Wife learned to use the Convection for everything an oven does. If I were buying your unit. I would appreciate the stove top only. And Storage below or put the Micro there.

Always use the oven and wouldn't buy a trailer without one.

how big is trlr ? full timers and snow birds want over , weekenders not so much ! the little 1s heat right up with oven on .
here under 25' get stovetop most of the time .
be aware new stoves are not as wide as original so some creativity is required to install in original counter.

Good evening airstreamers..
To bake or not to bake, that is the question...Lifestyle is your determining factor. I like cooking outside whenever possible, it keeps the trailer clean and smell free. the microwave in our unit is used often, but the cook top and oven rarely. I am currently building new cabinets and countertops, an my design plan is for a clutter free counter top without a cook top or oven. In place of the oven, I will install a convection oven, and below the oven a shelf to store a small two burner propane stove that operates on one pound non refillable tanks, for the times we may need to cook inside
I have a LP grill and cook top that operates from my 30# tanks that are always used outside. When all is said and done, it still becomes your personal choice and there is no trend that you can use to answer your question. Think it over.
Peace in our time...

We recently bought an '05 Safari. Didn't take long for us to use the oven. We're quite sure that we were the first ones to light the oven in an almost 12 year old AS. I agree that personal preference is hard to anticipate.

Oven or Not?
We are also renovating a 76 Tradewind - the previous owner had replaced the original range with a cooktop, but since we plan to be living in "Betty" for weeks/months at a time, I wanted an oven.
I picked up the Dometic CU 434 today and it is a beauty - not much more expensive than a new Surburban or Atwood, but with full fold-down glass top, ignition and glass oven view. All stainless, easy clean - very good looking. We are considering a Microwave/Convection also - that decision next! Having the oven doesn't take up much more space and offers a lot more options - well, I think so anyway
