I replaced the gas pig tails again this spring that connect the propane tanks to the regulator. No one makes the same length pig tail that came on my 2004 Classic. The first time I bought a pig tail that was longer than the old one but not long enough to make a comfortable coil. I think over time it put pressure on the connection and I eventually I got a leak at a crimp for the POL connection.

So I bought two new hoses that were 20 inches long and this time found that I could make a comfortable loop without putting pressure on the connections at either end of the hose.

Well that was this spring and typically I do not run with both tanks open even though the regulator is built for this situation. When I replaced the hoses, I opened valve on the tank which had been in use and getting low.

Fast forward to the last trip of the year and just before I left the tank finally ran out of propane so prior to leaving I switched over the full tank. All was well, and the sight indicator showed green. I did one final check before I headed out and noticed the fridge which should have switched over to gas had a check light on. Went back to the tank and the indicator was now red even though the tank gauge showed full. I decided to trouble shoot at my campsite which was about 80 miles from my house.

I started doing some diagnosis at the campground and the first thing I did was shut off the gas and then turn it back on. No pressure shown by the regulator. So I closed off the tank disconnected the pig tail from the regulator and slowly opened up the valve on the bottle. No gas hiss.

I kept one of the old hoses as a backup that was still good as an emergency backup. Pulled off the new hose and put the old one on the bottle. Opened up the valve and there was the hiss. Put the new hose back on, no hiss. Defective hose. Took it back to the RV dealer without a receipt but with the enclosure the hose was in. They took it back even though I bought it 4 months ago and gave me a replacement. Put the new hose they gave me on and all is well.

Lesson learned check both hoses at the time you do replacements!
