Will AGS batt work with Univolts?

I think my 5 year old Interstate Deep Cylcle battery has about reached the end of it's life. Would there be any reason I shouldn't replace the old one with one or two AGS batteries and continue (for the time being) to use the Univolt. (Getting a 3 phase inverter is on my to do list)

The only reason I can think of is the univolt may not be capable of charging two of any type of large batteries. Don't know if the Univolt will just put out what it is capable of doing and no more without burning up if connected to two large discharged batteries. I see no reason why it wouldn't work with one battery of any type as long as it's a simular size/capacity as the original.

The short answer is no. While the Univolt will charge it, AGM (and flooded for that matter) deep cycle manufactures all recommend multi-stage chargers for best performance. Your Univolt is not regulated and may damage the battery.
I would recommend a cheap Walmart flooded battery or even a used one robbed from another vehicle until you upgrade the charger.

Not sure on a vintage, but I found Randy's 3 stage upgrade offerings to be a worthwhile upgrade that I would suggest to any owner not wanting to "cook" their batteries.

Where can I find more on Randy's upgrades?

Check the links on Randy's (68 Overlander's) sig. I got my electrical toys from the bestconverter site. Prices, support and communication were top notch.

If you have questions on what to get, what will fit, etc, Randy is the man. My converter/charger swap out, though it was a kit, took about 30 minutes from start to putting the tools away.
