Trojan 27 Gel Anyone?

Was looking to replace my Interstates and was wondering if anyone out there has tried the Trojan GEL series and had any feedback? Look a bit on the high-side of the price curve, but are they worth it? I've put optima batteries in previous trailers and had mixed results (one got replaced under warranty because it wouldn't hold a charge) so reluctant to go back to them..

TIA...Eric

Based on the above, recharging seems to be the Achilles heal of Gel batteries.

"– Charging Challenged: When charging your gel battery, you’ll want to plan on giving it extra time. Slow charging cycles are pretty common with these batteries, but you can’t walk away and leave it. Because it’s a gel instead of a liquid you’ll need to take it off the charger as soon as it’s complete. To leave it on could cause voids with the electrolyte which is irreversible damage."

The Optima’s seem to have less capacity than other AGM in the same size group. Check the amp hour capacity of the gel Trojan.

We’ve had the Trojan AGM Group 27s for two years. They’re holding up fine and I keep them charged; don’t have to take out to water or for winter storage. Added benefit: they fit where previous Group 24s were. We did replace the old Univolt with a decent charger at the same time.

I replaced my Interstate 12V's with Trojan 6V wet cells last summer and my friend did same only he got the Trojan 6V AGM's. We are both very happy...I do check the water levels but so far, since new last July, no need to add water. I think either choice will be fine for your use model.

I do not know if your 2018 has the 3 stage converter that AS started supplying in 2018 or if you replaced with a 4 stage model with "smart technology"? Good topic to ask about if you end up having issues. I have not seen any negative feedback on these new 3 stage converters yet, so not sure how they compare to the 4 stage units out there? Would be good to get feedback on both units...
