I shorted the switch wires above the sink and just turn the thermostat on the AC down so the compressor cuts off when I use the microwave. This keeps air circulating but still provides enough current to run the microwave.

We're no longer staying. We are home, but were camped at Devil's Den. Petit Jean and Lake Catherine are close seconds when it comes to favorites by the way.

Just to let you know. I don't do much in the way of Missouri park camping. Arkansas state parks have my state's parks beat every which way!
Others have already nicely addressed the electrical load issue.

Glad you enjoy coming south to visit! Devil's Den is certainly one of the nicest state parks. Good hiking, and the caves make a nice cool place to stop and rest. Beautiful area.

I grew up in western Arkansas near Petit Jean and Mt. Magazine. Plenty of nice stuff there too.

That's what I was going to suggest, without the wiring part - just switch the A/C to fan only for a few minutes while using the microwave, and you'll probably never notice the difference.

Alternate solution: Next time try Bull Shoals White River State Park. We were there for two days a couple weeks ago and never had to run the AC, nice and cool by the White River. Aside from the mechanical hum of the park's sewage plant across the river, this is about as perfect a state park as I've encountered. Lows in the mornings next to the river were in the 50s.
