Smart plug shows blue and red
When I plug in my smart plug both the blue and red lights illuminate. There is no way it is reverse polarity as i have tried it in different locations. Maybe it only illuminates properly when plugged into 50 amp service as I’m into 110 at home. Or perhaps the smart plug is defective, has anyone else had similar issues?

Ours doesn't show blue and red when plugged into 30 amp or 110. Have you checked the prongs and your rig-side plug to make sure everything is clean and there's no issue with a solid connection?

That's the reverse polarity indicator:
Quote:
REVERSE POLARITY
Reverse Polarity is a safety concern and can damage electrical components on the coach or trailer. This unsafe condition exists when the power coming from the pedestal is improperly wired. The issue has become enough of a concern that the New 2020 NFPA 70 National Electrical Code introduced language in the RV STD Article 551 to include a new section 551.40(D). This addition requires a reverse polarity device on all New Recreational Vehicles as of 7/1/2021.
New for 2021, is SmartPlugs Reverse Polarity Indicator System. Reverse Polarity is a safety concern and can damage electrical components on a coach or trailer. On top of all SmartPlug coachside power cord connectors are two LED Indicator Lights, one blue and one red. When the SmartPlug is connected to a power source the lights will illuminate to indicate the status of a safe or unsafe condition. Our cordsets are weatherproof and easy to use, plus they ensure your family can safely enjoy their next adventure.

On the Smart Plug web site it show the following description:
Reverse Polarity Indicator System uses LED lights to let you know if it's safe to connect to shore power
Blue light means power is on and connection is safe
Blue and red lights mean neutral has been incorrectly wired, causing reverse polarity
Red light means ground is incorrectly wired
If both are off, there is no power
The link below shows a color coded graft.
Hopefully you can find out the root cause

So when i plug in today everything is fine, perhaps I didn’t push the plug on to the point it clicks into place? Anyway for now all is good.

Hmmm. I didn't know it could do that.

Smartplug ground fault Ford Propower
Similar issue but when using my 2000kw Ford Propower the Smartplug show ground fault and will trip truck when breakers on. Called SP and they said the lights don’t control power so rv may still be energizing. Propower works fine with other tool. I tried to shut off all breakers, truck didn’t trip, plug still showed fault. AC fan would run, but truck tripped when I flipped on Converter to charge batteries. What’s up?

Others have had problems with the converter tripping the Ford Propower.

Power to ground?
Is it possible for my rv inverter to produce a 12v ground back to the truck propower that trips the truck breaker? And my truck is sensing power to ground back from inverter??

When I first got my trailer the smart plug would sometimes go blue and red, other times, red, sometimes blue, sometimes nothing. My Progressive Industries EMS says all is fine. The smart plug is the dumbest smart device ever. It is literally polarity tester., and not a very good one at that. I like the connector, but a "smart" plug?
I did contact the manufacturer. They will warranty it but I need to send it back to them on my dime. No thanks. I'll just use the EMS.

No. With that said if not wired or working properly the inverter could be bonding 120v neutral to ground tripping the breaker. Check this thread.

Making progress on the ground failt
It is the ground with the truck and ground with rv converter, they are fighting one another.
When I turn off breaker of converter and inverter, all AC appliances ran fine. Smartplug told me the indicator light would still show the ground fault, but would send AC power to RV.
So I can run my AC with Easystart (2000kw Propower). Now my question is…..
Does the solar input port on the front of rv run direct to battery bank or through the converter to charge the batteries? If direct I could charge batteries with AC direct from truck and while not perfect a good work around to use my truck power when boondocking. Leave the generator at home!

Hijacking the smart plug thread
My smartplug has no led lights today. Hooking up at new site. Everything is working and the watchdog (external) working as normal. Just zero LED
Rain getting in it? Only a month old…….

Yup, I had the same experience. I don’t get the purpose of the smart plug. Even when it is working correctly, if something is wired wrong, it simply shows you that there is an issue but it doesn’t do anything. Seems to me if it were a “smart” plug, it would disconnect the power. Ignore it and use the watchdog.

Spoke to two different commercial electricians and both said to install at ground switch at the converter so I can disconnect that one and let the truck protect when using it as a power source. As of now, I throw the breaker to the inverter and converter and I can use AC appliances only. But isolating the converter, I shouldn’t get the ground fault on the truck (as the truck will be the only ground) allowing me to use everything. Will be a pain to get to it but that is my plan in the coming weeks. Will report back if that solves the problem. Would sure like to use my truck propower instead of hauling a generator and fuel around.

My Victron IP65 Shunt blinked blue and red when first powered up, once configured it's only blue now. I double checked polarity before hooking eveything up.
