Progressive Dynamics 4045 Converter

Has anyone purchased and installed the Progressive Dynamics 4045 all in one electrical service panel from Vintage Trailer Supply? I am not an electrician, and the instructions are less than user friendly when it comes to someone with little electrical experience. My trailer had no 12v service at all, so I have nothing to go off of.

Explanations would be very nice. Pics or illustrations would be helpful.

Steve

4045

Steve,
Did you get this converter? Do you, or anyone else like it?

I got one myself. Although you know the currently "condition" of my A/S I'll be sure to follow the thread, though.

I got one on the way

After much searching I decided on this small, all in one. Still waiting to hear of anyones experience with one and the tight space for installation wiring problems.

Its probably the best small converter on the market except the Iota ILS needs loved too because they just don't fail. They both do a great job.

Where to begin?

I got the 4045 and ready to install......this thing is a mess! The instructions for it are worse than poor. I hope it works after figuring this out. If you have installed one....does it need a grounding bus bar added? Are real instructions available anywhere?

rough out on my installation

I did have to buy a grounding bus because I ran grounds from all 12v fixtures. Got it from Best Converter.

Thanks for posting that chart. The only thing I see that is missing is where does the tow vehicle wires come into play? And the running lights, etc. My trailer running lights will not operate unless the battery is in line and connected.

ELECTRICAL....back at it....need help again

1956safari....sorry for the long delay. The unbilical (7 pin connect) will bring the power to your running and brake lights. In that 7 wire bundle, the black charge line will be the one that goes to the battery...thru a resettable CB.

My question.. HELP. In the new system I am building up....I am planning on 10 guage wire for the battery POS and NEG connecting cables. Electrical expert....will that do?
Do I use 50 AMP fuses on both of these cables?
Thanks.

Power input??

4045 instructions are junk. One spot says to hook the converter wire to the MAIN circuit breaker. Another says to attach power in to the MAIN and the Converter to a BRANCH. Even their diagrams show different component wiring. So I am leaning toward attaching the converter lead to the Branch CB....1st on left and the main power inlet to the 30 AMP CB...2nd on left. The rest to the remaining 15 AMP Breakers.

The tech help line at Progressive D. will not answer....did they move to India?

So, what will ignite when I hook up power?

I would have recommended a 30/20. Main (30) and air conditioner (20). Then twin 15s on the others. One 15 being the converter by itself so you can isolate it or turn it off if needed. Don't see the need for all of those 20 amp breakers.

Change is coming up

Thanks Randy....I will get the twin 15's tomorrow. I got the 20's from a local dealer and he will swap 'em out. I would have called you on this, but I bought this from Vintage and did not want to wear out my welcome with you. I did buy my Iota for the 94 Sovereign from you....and expect no problems there.

It's in....and works.

The 4045 is finally installed. The 12 volt system works great. As part of my learning experience with electrics....the 115v could not be tested because the Marinco inlet and cord I installed have three curved blade, 30 AMP, plug....not like the 30 AMP three prong (one round) plugs I have on other things. Awaiting the adapter now.

fan

Hi...I cannot hear the fan noise at all. It seems like a great small panel.

very quiet

I also have installed the 4045 & love it! Yes, instructions suck & make little sense, at least not to us electrical neophytes. But, Randy is very helpful, although tech support at Progressive Dyn. is not, so much. I cannot hear one little peep from this converter. That fan does not run continuously, I don't think, because I can never hear it when and if it goes on. It has been plugged in to 110 house power continuously, for over a month as I've been working on the GT, in temperatures here in southern Arizona ranging from 100-118.

Ok, thank you both for your replies. I have ordered the unit and will install it next week, hopefully.

Cheers!
