Newbie Removing AGMs

As my last winterization step I’m taking out my 2 6v AGMs to maintain them in the garage. I’ve removed, marked and taped up the cables, disconnected the series jumper, and unbolted the center hold down plate, but now I can’t lift out the batteries. Is there another bracket or tiedown holding them in place? I can’t see one anywhere.

Welcome Aboard 👍

Well ours weighed 60lb+ each it takes a good grip and some muscle to move 'em, and ours slid out of their enclosure.

You might consider getting a 'lifter"🤔

I made a strap to help slide ours over the hinge and out.👍

POI...My 'old fart' solution was to charge them fully, disconnect, tape the neg cable and leave them in the AS thru the Winter. Without a draw they were fine and lasted 11 years.

Something holding them in?

Thanks, Bob. Glad to have joined the club. Well, when I grab them by the strap, they move, so I think I can lift them, it’s just that they seem to be held down by something. I looked all around the box and see no other holds downs except for the middle screw post and plate, which I’ve removed (the plate not the post). They both rock in place when I try to lift them but do not come up out of the box, as if there were a clamp somewhere at the bottom or on one side?

If I hadn’t invested in a battery minder I’d probably take your advice. Still might! (But it gets below zero many of these high desert nights.)

Fully Charged the batteries are freeze protected to -75 F. They also lose their charge slower at lower temperatures; about 2 years to lose 20% at freezing. So if you fully charge them and completely disconnect them there is no problem leaving them outside, they will hold a good charge for 6 months easy. As insurance you can check them from time to time to be sure they are above 12.5 V and charge them if they are not.
