Magnetek converter 7455-dead battery

I had the Magnetek converter model 7455 55amps installed in my 1976 A/S about 8 years ago. It has worked without a problem until recently. I noticed that my battery was dead so I replaced it with a new one. But the converter is not charging the battery and it will go dead over a short time. The converter is working when hooked up to shore power I can hear it running and the 12 volt lights work. Could one of the large fuses connected to the ground and hot lines to the battery be bad. These used to be glass so that you tell if they were blown, but the newer ones have a cardboard type cover. Thanks for any input.

It is very possible that one of those fuses are bad. Both the positive and negative lines to the battery have fuses. A volt meter is the best way to check it out.

I found one of the old original glass fuses that had blown a number of years ago. It is a BUSS AGU 50. I don't have the trailer home now, but I had replaced these with the same size fuse with a cardboard type tube. It seems like that was what was available from my RV service guy. I see from a goggle search that the glass tuble type are available.

more of the diagnosis

Here is more of the diagnosis. The problem started a while back. I noticed that when I would go to storage and pick up A/S that the electric jack did not work. When I backed up close enough to plug in the power cord from the truck it worked fine. I though that it was just a bad battery and bought a new one. It was charged and worked for a while until it lost its charge. So it was not the battery but the fact that it was not be charged from the converter.

Since I have always hooked up to shore power I just left it alone. Now I am replacing my axles and adding disc brakes. So I want to make sure that all of the power and battery work. Thanks

Don
Don,

I get mine from Anglers Marine in California. West Marine or any marine shop should have them. They come in 40 and 50 amp size.

Randy with BestConverter - Converters, Inverters, Electrical Supplies, Electronics also thinks it is a blown fuse. I had ordered a volt meter and the book managing 12 volts from him and he let me know he put a couple of the AGU 50 fuses in with my shipment. What great guy. Those things are hard to find.

I will post the results once I get a chnace to install the fuses.

Thanks for the input from everyone.

Follow up

The new 50am fuse that Randy sent me installed on the Negative(-) battery line fixed the problem.
