Lithium ion battery

Has anyone tried using lithium ion batteries for the house batteries? They weigh about 15 lbs each for a group 24 size and you can discharge down about 80%.
Price at 689.99 each is steep but can be recharged about 3 times as many times as a normal flooded battery.

So, at 689.99 each with 3x as many charge cycles, they make comparable economic sense to a $229 lead-acid battery, but I pay about $90 for a Group24 flooded deep cycle. At those prices you can get SLA/AGM batteries that'll work and play better with garden-variety 3-stage converters. The weight savings is nice, though. What's the amp-hour rating of the $690 group24 one you're seeing?

One I found on a casual search looks like it's group 31 in size, a nice light 25 lb, 80 amp-hours. However, they want $1050 for it. *cough*

The 24 group is 50 amp hrs but you can run the charge down below 80% so it is
about the same as flooded 80 amp hr battery. They can be charged with a normal 3 stage charger and are said to charge faster. But the big advantages are weight and can be mounted in any manner needed and no acid corrosion. They also hold voltage stable until near full discharge. If you compare price over 1200 cycles they are a bit cheaper than AGM's. I was trying to cut some weight my wife thinks there is no limit to what she can add " oh it's not that much more" I hear every time she wants to bring something new.

those are the batteries that cause fires in airplanes recently. I'd rather have a $155.00(Canadian) 115 amp hr group 27 deep cycle fail than a $689.00 battery.
Saving weight is a great idea but not at that price.

I think the batteries we are taking about are lithium iron, not lithium ion.

I further think the fire problem is with lithium ion, not lithium iron.

As an aside, I just replaced a 15 lb Odyssey battery in my Light Sport Sky Arrow with a 2.5 lb lithium iron by Aerovoltz. So far, so good.

i think I will let others pioneer this one. My pair of 6 volt golf cart batteries (220 ah) cost under 200 bucks. i have to admit that on this trip they are starting to show signs of weakening.
That's the bad news. The good news is they will be 11 years old in june so they were certainly cost affective

If memory serves— and memory serves less and less often as I get older— the planes that caught fire used Lithium Manganese. Tesla automobiles used Lithium Cobalt. Lithium Iron Phosphate is more heat-resistant, but has greater weight and lower stored energy, so it's not good for weight-critical applications like aircraft, but still pretty lightweight compared to AGM for the same amp-hours.

We are installing four Lifeline GPL-6CT 6Vdc 300-amp hour batteries at 90 pounds each. When wired together in series and parallel, we will have 12Vdc and 600 amp-hour capacity. They will reside in a new battery box between the front of the trailer skin and the propane tanks. The original battery box has been modified to hours the Titan disc brake controller and brake pump.

One can use about 50% or 300 amp hours of energy (3,600 watts). The 800 watt solar array should refill that in a day of sunshine.

5000 cycles not the 1200 I first stated sorry. The up front cost is large but for
a fulltimer it would be cheaper in long run.
