Inverter noisy after surge install

Hi
Based on recommendations of airforums I purchased a Progressive Industries EMS-PT30X and installed it today. I turned all the big stuff off, plugged in the EMS and turned everything back on and reset all the clocks. However this box under the drivers side front couch has had a fan running ever since. I've been in this trailer a year and haven't ever heard the noisy box under the couch before. I'm a bit ignorant about trailer wiring at this point, and I'm sure I'll get better over time. The trailer also has 2 solar panels on the roof, I was told 100w each. Feedback?
Thanks

Well the two red lights indicate overtemp/overload and a low battery. Are you sure that you aren't running on battery power by itself? Do you have AC power coming into the AS? Any warning messages on the the EMS?

I think you're on to something Gary. Perhaps the EMS is locked out on one of its several faults, low voltage or open ground are common.

Hi
I downloaded the Inverter manuals today, will read them tonight.
I have a xantrex freedom 458 2500 watt inverter, per the internet its supposed to be a pretty good unt.
I sent out emails to Xantrex and Progressive so we'll see what they say tomorrow.
Tonight i'm just going to read the manuals.
Happy Travles!

It may not be anything wrong with your inverter. You need to check your EMS for an error code because if it detected a fault and blocked your AC power the inverter may be trying to power everything from the battery and you are just hearing the noise an inverter normally makes when it has a load on it. And if the EMS has blocked your AC power the battery is not recharging either, hence the low battery light--Frank

Once you get the current situation resolved, you'll be glad you have the Progressive power protector. I had no problem for the first year, but last year I encountered two private campgrounds with electrical problems. One code was for an open ground and the other code was for a problem with the neutral. In both cases I was able to move to another location a few slots away.

Hi
I've been in this trailer full time hooked up for a year. Every thing seemed to work. I honestly never paid any attention to the inverter-charger under the sofa because it didnt make any noise.
a) Last week I plugged into a Progressive EMS-PT30X surge protector, and didnt see any error codes.
b) I immediately noticed a noise (fan) under the sofa causing investigation.
c) The xantrex freedom 458 2500 watt inverter-charger has an error code (backfeed shutdown. Incorrect ac wiring). But everything in the trailer still works.
d) I remove the Progressive EMS-PT30X from the plug (remove from the equation).
e) I still have the Inverter error code and fan.
f) I call xantrex on how to reboot the inverter. Disconnect the batteries and park power for two hours. Which I did today. Still have the same error code and fan.
g) look in the circuit box and see this funny note about turning the microwave circuit off when dry-docking, see pic. Flip the circuit a couple of times and nothing changes.
h) Notice on the xantrex control panel that batteries are now at 50%. I still have the inverter error code and fan but everything is working.
i) Jumped on Amazon and ordered a Noco Genius 10-amp charger, just in case. I should probably have one anyway.

Eventually I want this trailer loaded with solar panels and to have a solid electrical system. I was hoping to do it myself over time. But life happens. I'd like to find a retailer in Oregon that would sell me the components and provide plenty of advise on the install. Any recommendations?

I was eyeing the Victron 3000 all in one unit inverter-charver-solar on line, anybody have any experience wit it?

Happy Travels!

If you don't have a decent digital multi-meter, get one of those first since you plan on messing with electrical stuff. Even if you have a cheap one, let's start by assuming the fault code is correct and check polarity on the 120 V circuits going to the inverter, perhaps it is wired backwards. There will be one set of wires for 120V converter input and a second for 120V inverter output.

Check also the 120V distribution panel the breakers and hot bus should be hot and neutral should be 0V relative to earth and trailer ground.

Hi BayouBiker
My trailer also has a Solar Boost 2000E solar controller and (2) (I was told) 100-w panels on the roof. I suspect the solar has been maintaining the batteries, not the inverter-charger.
I work full time, so time is limited.
But yes, I provably need to invest into a multi-meter. I used to have one 35-years ago when I used to install those 10-ft diameter satellite TV dishes, chuckle. Do you have any recomendations for mid level multi-meter?
I suspect a new inverter-charger is in the near future. If money is no object, and I stay within the 30-amp service parameters, and I stay 12-v, and I load up with solar, what do you recommend?
Thanks!
