How many amps?

Looking to replace Univolt, but I'm unsure of how many amps I should get.
Battery is a single Group 27/31 around 100ahr. I see comments that say you shouldn't charge much over c/4. Which would seem to limit me to about a 30a converter. 45 would seem way to much. Below 30a I'm looking at battery charges that can't operate independent of a battery. Is there something I'm missing?

As a point of reference, most modern AS seem to come with a 55-amp converter regardless of the battery configuration. You could look at this from the same perspective everyone gives for buying an AS, "don't buy based on the TV you have today" so don't buy a charger/converter based on the single battery you have today

If you ever convert to lithium the numbers change, in theory C/2 increases longevity...but reality is that in other applications C/1 is common, and in many uses of lithium batteries charge rate exceeds 1*C or even 2*C.

I'd go with 45-55 amps. Modern converters will self regulate the amperage going into the battery.

45 with a modern converter will be fine. You are reading old stuff before voltage regulated switching converters came out. Even 55-60 amps is fine if you plan to add more batteries in the future.

Single battery is really my only option unless I do a total revamp of the interior. Further given alternators are a lot higher amps and charge at bulk rates into smaller capacity batteries it seemed odd.
Anyway will probably go with a 45 amp. That should be more than enough for my needs.
Particularly as the old bulbs get swapped for LEDs.

I wouldn't go with less than 45 amps even with only one battery.
