Help converter making funny noise!

Ok, I just got my 12v system back on line after the shell off. I had some wires backwards on the stove fan but got them back the right way. The converter is making a funny noise. Like a guitar string being plucked. when it does this the lights dim.

It makes the noise every 15 seconds or so, like it charging up to do it. It does it whether the lights are on or not?

It didn't make this noise when I took it out, and it's only been sitting in the garage.

Any ideas? It's dark know so I won't be able to do anything till the morning.

First, turn the converter/charger off. It sounds to me like you have an automatic resetting circuit breaker somewhere with a short on it. It keeps trying to reset, and each time it does it loads the converter/charger, makes noise, and dims the lights.

You don't want it to continue all night, that is bad for everything.

Batteries are good, just came of the trickle charge, And I disconnected the cables from the battery when I came in. I will try turning that part off tomorrow. and unplugging it form where the shore power comes in. I didn't have this hooked up at the time.

i agree with idroba, it sounds like a 12v breaker resetting. leave everything disconnected and verify the polarity on your converter & battery connections.

Thats what it was. the polarity light was blinking when it made the strum noise. Switched the battery cables around and it works fine. I was using black and white and the trailer was using white and red. I read the wires going into the convertor backwards.

Thanks for the help.
