Extra wires at the batteries

We have a 2017 30' Classic that we purchased used. I know what all the wires at the battery box are for except two- a black and a white both connected to a negative post then running together out of the battery box. At one time the unit had solar power but that was removed prior to us purchasing the unit. I expect the two wires had something to do with that but I am not sure. Does anyone have an idea what the wires are for or may have been for?

Silly question, but have you followed them to see where they go? I'm guessing that they are/were used to ground something.

I’m with Richard on tracing them back to the source. The white is non-factory and added on at some point.

Regarding the previous solar install, same thing. Since it wasn’t factory there’s no way to know what the previous owner or installer did.

Let us know what you find!

Both wires disappear into the cloth like conduit in the upper right hand corner. I am not electrically savvy so I don't know how to trace from there. Since my guess is they were related to the solar install and there is no other aftermarket equipment, I am thinking I will disconnect and see what if anything is affected. Jeff you stated the white wire is non-factory. Any thoughts if the black is the same?

Thanks to both of you for your input.

I dug out my owner's manual and looked at the electrical schematic. The other black wire is to the ground bus, so white wire is the only "mystery" wire.

Trekbiker, if your Classic is wired similarly to our Globetrotter, the loom of wires enters the bottom of the coach in a compartment (ours is under the curb side twin bed) where the DC distribution box is. If you can find that, you should find the end of the white wire.

It’s possible the wire was part of the add-on solar install. The factory solar terminates in the DC distribution box. Below is a photo of the compartment and what you’ll find in the DC box.

Don’t worry about not being an expert on electrical. You can learn as you go! We all started from the beginning at some point.
