Distribution panel upgrade

I am in the midst of a fuse panel upgrade. There was a leak (which I found and fixed) that totally ruined the fuse box behind the front gaucho. It rusted all of the terminals and loosened connections causing failure. I ordered a new 9 circuit fuse box and also replaced the auxiliary fuse holders for the tow lighting. The question I have is concerning the main negative cables from the battery. They are both fused and I cannot figure out why? In talking to an Electrical engineer at work he can't think of why wither and recommended me not fuse the negative main cables. Is there reason to? Any advice would be appreciated! The univolt is still in good condition so no plans to replace yet. The Distribution panel I bought is the 9 circuit from Parallax Power Supply. It is scheduled to arrive tomorrow.

Thanks.

Nate

Nate,
I count at least 10 DC circuits in your panel. Parallax makes a 12 and 15 position fuse board as well just so you know.

Only 5 Circuits. The other 4 are the towing lights (Brakes, blinkers etc.) I have replaced and now have a good working electrical system!! I did not have room to keep the keep the ammeter connection, but I can live with that. I am just curios as to why Airstream fused the negative connections to the batteries??

Hey ND48463,

Your panel upgrade looks great.

What did you do with your 50 amp positive and negative fuses? From the pics it looks like you eliminated them.

Going thru the same upgrade and your pics have really helped.

I bought some surface mound fuse pods that are typically used for stereo installation. I put them right inline off of the battery. I did the same for the positive lead going from the univolt. There is some pics of these on the forums somewhere, and you can buy them on ebay pretty cheap.

Hope this helps!
