Bill,

On the battery side, with the new Lithiums, the battery cables are entirely new, 4/0 for the paralleling and 2/0 for the in and out. The solar minus had to be isolated, removed from the grounding bus, but the DC loads remain connected to the DC bus as before, including the use of the relay to connect or disconnect loads to the bus. The propane detector is unchanged. I did, however, need to connect the tongue jack to the DC bus. I removed the stock fuse holder with the hard-to-find sb fuse and installed a marine 30 amp circuit breaker in the old battery box. I used the old inverter cable, #4 I think, from the DC bus to the breaker, since that cable was already there. The Orion isolates the BMS and provides DC to the DC bus, including the tongue jack.

BAB,

Am I missing something here? With 6v batteries you would have 2 sets of series/parallel giving you 440amp-hours, not 4x220, wouldn't you?

Larry,
Thanks for the info. I see now that you were doing solar as part of your install. I had mistakenly thought you were doing only charger/inverter....I don't have a factory inverter in my 2011 25' FC FB.

troutboy,
Thanks for the clarification. While I am planning on not including solar at this time, I am interested in understanding what would be required for it down the road, so I can ease the future installation work.

Because I am new to my AS, and because I don't have any factory wiring diagrams, figuring out the current physical connections and layout in my AS is proving to be more difficult than figuring out the configuration of the logical circuits. If anyone knows how to obtain "factory" wiring diagrams, I would be very interested.

Yup, sorry for the error....440 is correct. Really happy with the 6V batteries....I think they weigh about 70 lbs each. Lithium will be a nice reduction in "avoirdupois."

You should be able to obtain the diagrams from the factory. Also, the owners manuals have some basic diagrams as well and they can be found online at the airstream site

I already had factory solar, but that is a non-event in doing the installation I did. Two wires, compared to the other extensive changes. My install was really about the Lithiums, the inverter/charger, and the battery monitor.

Thanks for your input.

I am asking which Progressive Dynamics Power Panel for 30amp system, you use. Also which Magnum Inverter you recommend?

I have extracted what I could from the owners manual, and based on that and some poking around my AS, created a logical wiring diagram which I will attempt to attach to this post....I'll try contacting the factory, and see if I can get a wiring diagram from them.

Bill,

I do not know how those 30 amp reverse polarity fuses are actually wired. You won't find them on an AS schematic, they are a part of the converter and my WFCo manual did not have a schematic.

Grwalk,

Here are a few links to the panels Lewster mentioned. I bought mine from here. On the 30/30 panel, make sure you select model PD55B003

Larry,
When I was looking at my existing DC distribution panel, I though those fuses were part of that panel. I'll have to have a close look next time I am digging around.....I contacted Airstream, and after a little email back and forth explaining what I was looking for, they have emailed me back some diagrams already(and at no charge, talk about good customer service!). There is a lot of mechanical detail on them, so I'm hoping they are a nice supplement to poking around in the trailer. (particularly when the wires "disappear" from sight.)

I requested about 20 drawings as I was planning my project. Most were layout drawings that were useless. About 3 schematics had value. The fuse panel is a part of the converter, not an Airstream product so you will not see a detail for that. I used a meter and my eyeballs to trace out the wires to and from the the converter and the DC fuse board.

Thanks for that drawing.
This is what is lacking on these types of discussions.
