Question Checking condition of dual AGMs

In about 2 weeks I will be taking delivery of a new 2010 AS Interstate. The coach batteries are 2 AGMs and I understand that they can be permanently damaged by sitting at a low level of charge for an extended time. This unit has been on the dealer's lot for about 8 months. So, my question is: do I ask the dealer to remove the cables so the voltage level of each battery can be measured separately? How difficult is it to access the batteries on an Interstate?

Thanks,
WS in AK

I should have mentioned, this is the twin-bed model.

AGM's have a lower self-discharge rate than flooded cell types - so I wouldn't really worry about the batteries in this RV...

The Dealer has probably started this RV a number of times during the time it's been on the lot, allowing the alternator to recharge these batteries to some degree - a good thing!

The Dealers I sell batteries to, have a set routine where they start all the RV's once a week to exercise the mechanical stuff, etc...so again, I wouldn't really worry about your AGM's...

To set your mind at ease, the batteries can be load tested by unhooking one of the cables from at least one of the batteries so they can be tested individually...assuming the batteries are 12 volt types, hooked in PARALLEL...

If your batteries happen to be the 6 volt golf cart type, they are hooked in SERIES and can be load tested WITHOUT unhooking any connections...individually at 6 volts, or both at once at 12 volts - the usual method, as most load testers aren't calibrated for 6 volt batteries...

hi wayne

waiting for delivery is SO HARD!

both the PARTS manual and OWNERS manual are available ONLINE (up through 2009) ...

Airstream, Inc :: Motorhome Manuals

u might wanna download the pdf files and start reading/browsing...

many of your questions will be answered...

and NEW questions provoked,

while waiting for the 2010 manuals, which are probably not much different than 09...

cheers

Hi 2air,
Yes, waiting is hard. With luck, I will get out of town to go pick it up before my wife throws me out
I saw the manuals on the AS site; unfortunately the only one they have there is a parts book for the 09 Interstate. It's a start though.
Thanks,
