Charger for AGM Batteries

If I install a pair of Lifeline Group 27 AGM batteries in my Bambi do I need to change out the factory installed battery charger?

If you have the Parallax 7400 55a converter, IMHO.... yes.

That was the OEM converter in our Classic, It's a 2 stage unit that ruined our Interstate deep cycles while still on the dealer lot.

I replaced it with a IOTA unit, when I switched to the Lifeline AGM's. It's a 3 stage converter that will keep the AGM's on a float charge when needed.
No worry leaving the AS plugged in for extended periods.
Still a good idea to check once in awhile just for peace-of-mind though.

Bob is that plug and play in other words can you just pull the old unit out and install yourself ?

Yes, it is a simple remove and install job. Easy for the DIY'er. The recommendation to upgrade is not just because you changed to AGM batteries. It is a good upgrade for the deep cell batteries also. Pretty much removes the worry of overcharging and boiling your battery to death. Of course for peace of mind it's still advisable to check the water levels but the worry is gone. Some find the older convertors noisy and change them for that reason. I never noticed the noise and still don't with the upgrade done.

It was on our Classic....the install is under the front bed/couch.


It can be a little more difficult with other models depending on location.

Thanks Bob for the pics and info , I am going to do this upgrade , apart from checking the water level ,it sure beats running back and forth babysitting batteries !
I live on the west coast and it may get @ freezing maybe 2-3 weeks of the year .

Another recommendation for IOTA chargers. It was a pretty easy to retrofit into the existing space from the old converter and it quieter and better than the old converter.
