BMV712 failed update, now not working
i see that there is a new FW ver for the BMV 712.
i tried to update from 4.00 to 4.01
but it always fails at 30 %
now it will not show the current version
and the system fails to see the bmv now
now do i fix this?
how do i get the update to work?
also, the app still sees the BMV, but no data is shown. click on the GEAR and all all the sub menus are empty
i unplugged the BMV712 waited 5 min and this is still stuck on the this error screen
no buttons work except down arrow, it it just shuts the screen off

Hi
If you are trying to update the 712, it can be done directly from your phone. The only way for a CGX to get in the way would be if you are trying to update through it.
If you are doing it from a phone, just power up the 712 and do not connect it to anything but the shunt. ( = just power). Then power cycle the phone ( = shut it off cold so it reboots) and try again.

@bob
incorrect
the bmv is connected to the Color gx through the USB -> mk3 adapter
the s/w d/l goes through the GX , the usb and into the BMV ve.direct connector
victron 3rd level staff found that the usb driver on the GX was failing, that is why the BMV updates were failing
both of the ve.direct ports on my gx were used(one for the mppt, the other for the multiplus)thus i had to use the usb adapter
i am waiting for the GX rma replacement to arrive

Below is the change log for Release 4.01:
Change log:
V4.01 – 31 October 2018
- Added option for powering up in an unsynchronized state through setting #70 START SYNCHRONIZED (ON/OFF), ON by default. When set to OFF, the state-of-charge, time-to-go, and consumed energy are unknown until the first actual synchronization. Relay and alarm conditions based on these unknown parameters are disabled. The display’s CHARGE and (empty) battery indicator segments will blink.
- Battery indicator now scales between the configured discharge floor and 100% state-of-charge, instead of the full state-of-charge range (0% - 100%).
- Introduced automatic cycling through status items. Enabled by holding the MINUS button for 3 seconds. Disabled by pressing any button.
- Added option for disabling Bluetooth: setting #71 BLUETOOTH MODE (ON/OFF).
- Fixed an issue related to changing the backlight intensity while connected to VictronConnect.
- Fixed an issue related to the maximum backlight intensity level.
- Internal changes that do not change the functional behavior

Which model of the Multiplus Inverter/Charger do you have? All the ones I have seen use VE.Bus to communicate with the CCGX.

Hi
As does mine, which is what has me confused here. The BMV 712 goes to one direct port, the MPPT goes to the other. The MultiPlus hooks via an ethernet cable to the VE.Bus port. The only thing I have in the usb is the WiFI adapter.

According to your schematic, I don't see the need for the VE.Direct to USB adapter between the BMV and the CCGX. Why not wire it straight to the second VE.Direct port on the CCGX. Victron sells VE.Direct cables from .3M to 10 Meters.
Not being critical, just curious.
Thanks,
Pat

Hi
That's what all the Victron hookup examples show ....
Why bother? The USB port (when active) pulls power. The USB converter dongle also pulls power. Hooking straight to the dedicated port will save parasitic load on the batteries ( along with eliminating a point of failure).
