Battery terminal buss fuses

Hi,

21 Classic.
Does anybody know what the purpose of the 50A and 100A buss fuses on the battery terminal is? My 50A is bad. The wire that connects to that fuse is the main power 6 gage that comes from the distribution point that has the converter and solar. The 100A is on the inverter circuit.

Seems like if the converter rated DC current is 50A, along with additional input from the solar panels that the fuse would be bigger than 50A? I ordered a replacement and it was rather expensive. Hopefully will not blow another one.

The batteries are already bad now. If I upgrade to lithium, do I keep the same size fuse?

Any input is appreciated.

The fuses are sized to protect the wire. Changing to Lithium batteries will make no difference in the load. You will have to change some settings on your converter, solar charger, and DC to DC charger. Lithiums charge at a flat rate. Normally a constant 14.6 volt.

Is there a breaker switch that I can substitute for those fuses? (50A, 58V BUSS)

If the fuse blows, in most cases you will not even notice it. In my case, I didn’t know about it until the battery was almost dead and I went out and checked the fuse and saw that it was blown. Because of that, my batteries are now likely ruined. Not only that, the replacement fuse costs >$15! And they are hard to find. Weird design IMHO.

A breaker that is easy to check and reset would be much better.
