Battery Tender Auto Turnoff After 72 Hours

I have two ruined batteries and this is the explanation I received from Deltron,
"No, The unit is not designed to shut itself off. If you are using just
that one unit on two batteries and the batteries do not reach a full
charge within 72 hours the safety timer will stop the unit from charging
after 72 hours and you will then get the alternating lights from amber to
green. If that is happening in your case that tells me the unit you are
using is too small to handle both batteries and you would need either
another 022-0185G-DL-WH and use one on each battery and you would not have
to disconnect the batteries. Or a 3, 4, or 5 amp unit to handle those
batteries"

Amusing that they would say NO the unit is not designed to shut down and then explain how it actually is designed to do this. My Battery Tender is only a 1.5 amp unit. My airstream is stored in secured covered storage but is accessible to other tenants so I did not want to use an expensive charger. I don't know how many BATTERY TENDER chargers have this auto shutdown feature.

From the Tender Instructions...

Quote:
6. 72 HOUR SAFETY TIMER: If the battery voltage does not increase to the absorption level (14.75 Volts) within 72 hours after the battery is connected and the charger is turned on, the charger will automatically switch to maintenance mode (float level = 13.2 Volts). When this happens, the RED and GREEN lights will ALTERNATE at a slow rate. Check the battery condition. It may indicate that a very large, good battery is not fully charged, or that a smaller size battery is defective. Or there may be a high resistance connection, but not high enough to be an open circuit, otherwise both red and green lights would be out.
So it looks like the charger reverts to float (13.2 V) and doesn't turn off after all.

Only some of the the more expensive Battery Tender models operate in this manor. My unit (022-0185G-DL-WH) referenced in the above email from Deltran simply shuts down.
