Battery Swap

Hi to all the experts! The house batteries and the SunExplorer II solar controller and display have failed in my 2018 classic. Replacing the controller and the display is not an issue as I have a supplier in Canada, BUT i am wondering about changing out the batteries. Airstream recommends switching to the Battleborn 100ah 12V GC2 LiFePO4 deep cycle batteries. 1. can I do this without any other equipment changes. 2. Can I continue to store these batteries in the original battery box in the trailer tongue. 3. If i need to upgrade other components, what are they. Thanks for all the help in advance.

I switched out my factory installed AGMs with two 100ah lithiums a couple of years ago and have been very pleased. Today I would consider the 300ah battery several folks have mentioned here if it would fit in the battery box. Here's a link to my post with pictures of my install - https://www.airforums.com/forums/f44...um-241239.html. Since then, I've added a 20 Amp Renogy DC to DC charger to recharge the lithiums while driving, because the 7-pin won't carry enough current to charge the lithiums from the TV alternator.

You need to confirm that your existing converter (where the fuses are) is "switchable" to lithium batteries. LiFePO4 batteries have different charging requirements.

With a 2018, you may need to upgrade. I know I would need to with our 2019 22FB. This is not necessarily a major cost relative to the cost of quality batteries.

The batteries could go in the battery box. However, lithiums don't take a charge below 0 Celsius, and performance degrades in the cold. Therefore, many people relocate them in inside the trailer.

On the other hand, there are options with built-in heaters (self-heating) that are effective to about -20 Celsius.

You've got some research to do to determine what makes sense in your situation.

if in Canada, get the batteries from a CDN supplier. I bough mine from CANAMRV in London ONt
https://www.canamrv.ca

we got these batteries a a few years ago from a cdn source and they work very well
https://discoverbattery.com/products...s/lithium-blue

importing LION batteries is VERY expensive as there is a large shipping and import fee
LION are considered dangerous when shipping , so they charge an extra fee for secure handling

we placed out 4 lion batteries inside. that helps to reduce tongue weight
in the winter, we use a 100W plant heating pad and that keeps then just above 0 C
