Battery Discharging

We have a 2018 Classic. We woke up this morning to a battery that’s discharging. Our Dealership replaced the Firefly and now it won’t connect to the Alde. Firefly and Airstream can’t agree on what’s wrong.
We had a one week trip, planned and are on it now We’re trying to function without heat and hot water BUT woke up to our battery discharging. Haven’t a clue why. Any suggestions? We keep plugging it into the truck to charge it but the charge won’t hold.
Motorhomes were our choice for 40 years and decided to get rid of the stress and experience more flexibility in travel.

I think you need to go forthwith to buy a battery charger and hook it up to the batteries. To keep them from going down to far to recover. And so that the heat and lights will function. You just do not get much, if any, charge from hooking it to the truck. I can not help with the Firefly/alde. It sounds like your power converter is not turned on or is not functional. Check the 110 supply to the PC. Check the breaker and for a switch.

Contact the dealer ASAP and get them to sort this out IMO. At a minimum you need to be plugged into shore power to get your batteries fully charged.

Plugging into the truck for a couple of hours is woefully inadequate.

After a couple of days on shore power, unplug, wait an hour and report your battery voltage. If you have let the batteries get below 12.2 volts you may have damaged them. Flooded cell batteries or AGM? Water levels OK? Lots of variables!

Good luck,

PS — Good general primer for RV battery use:

Battery 101

Step 1. Separate both batteries from the trailer and each other.

Step 2. Load test each battery. An auto parts store will do this free for you.

Step 3. A healthy battery should maintain a range between 9.5-10.5 volts for 30 seconds under load. Anything less in the reading replace it.

Step 4. Put a Deltran Battery Tender (12v, 5A) on your (new) batteries.
