Battery Cable Gauge

Good Evening

Installing a Victron SmartShunt to the battery bank of my 2021 GB 27FBT. I need a small section of cable to connect the shunt to my battery but I am currently not with the unit and need to know what gauge wire was used off the negative post of the battery?

Thank You

use the biggest size cable ( ie low gauge #) that you can get. start with 10 ga at least

If you have a 1000 W inverter and a 50 A fuse on the feed to the distribution/power center, and you are going from the shunt to one post and then using a jumper to the other post go with 1 AWG 90C if you happen to find some 115C wire 2AWG will work. If you are immediately splitting to more than one battery, you can go with 2 or 4 AWG 90C insulation.

Battery Cable Gauge

Airstream ship with 6ga from batteries to 12v bus and 4ga from batteries to inverter.

When I re-wired mine I used a single 1/0 AWG cable to be sure. Both pos and neg. That is way more than enough for stock inverter and 12v needs.

Hope this helps.

Anything I do between the batteries and inverter, I use 4/0 gauge, but I have a 3000 watt inverter and I always over engineer... (and future proof).

It is a wise and elite group. Doesn't cost a lot and indeed future proofs.
I always go at least one wire gauge larger that calculations indicate.
