Bad univolt system

I am restoring a 76 Soverigh and finished the inside. I finally hooked up power and I think(more trouble shooting)that I have a bad univolt. I see that one is avaiable from Inland.and seems like would be a AS swap. However I read about another system and may have electronics that help not to overcharge the battery or other things?. Any advice once I determine it's bad. What, where, how much, what's best to replace this thing with. I understand electricity but this is a different game to me. Thanks. Gene

Go to the Electrical Systems forum (click on Forums near top of page), then to the Batteries, Converters, and Solar sub-forum, and you'll find all the information you need to make an intelligent decision. I went with an Intellipower converter and am happy with it.

I replaced my iffy univolt right after we bought our Trade Wind over 4 years ago. I installed an Intellipower and been happy since.

I got an Iota brand converter with the built in IQ Smart charge controller (http://www.iotaengineering.com/dls55.htm)from Randy at Bestconverter.com based on his recommendation. It has the smart charge technology to get the most out of the batteries. I am very happy with it.
