2023 BC20X 2x100AH Battery vs 1x200AH Battery

I am interested in making my Basecamp more off grid capable, but would like to do so in stages. With regards to Lithium batteries, is there a benefit to purchasing 2x100AH Lithium batteries vs 1x200AH battery? I can understand the desire to have redundancy in the event of failure, and that accomodating the storage footprint can be a factor as well. Aside from that, is there any performance benefit vs the two?

It depends on the spec of the batteries. Most 100 AH deep-cycle Lithium batteries have a 100 amp max output. I know some 200 AH deep-cycle Lithium batteries also only have a 100 amp max output. This can limit how much power you can draw for items like an inverter. Other 200 AH deep-cycle Lithium batteries may have a 200 amp limit,(I haven't checked) which would be no problem.

I agree that there is value to redundancy — if you have two batteries and one fails (not improbable, I have experienced a hard failure of a 12v lithium battery while camping) you can carry on. With regard to performance benefits, you would have to do research but it is possible that in the form factor of two 100Ah lithium batteries you might find a single battery with more than 200Ah.

Not a performance benefit, but the handling of two smaller batteries might be advantageous.
