2018 Bambi 16 battery not charging on shore power

Hi,
I have a 2018 bambi 16rb. The battery is not charging on shore power. We put in a brand new 12v AMG battery a couple weeks ago. Took it on a trip, seemed fine, battery was still at 12v+ after driving it home and parking in driveway. Sat disconnected for a few days, battery at 11.8. Plugged into shore power for a couple days, battery at 11.4. When connected to shore power, the outlets work. I checked the circuits, reset them all, unplugged and replugged shore power, no change. What else should I be doing?

Battery disconnect switch needs to be in USE to charge batteries.

Yes, check the use-store switch. Check the voltage in the 12 volt system while plugged in to shore power. Should be 13.6 or more. If not your power converter is not working. Could be the circuit breaker for the outlet the PC is plugged into. Could be faulty PC.

Battery issues are a bit complex. The only thing that is clear here is that it is not charging. Suspect is that something is also drawing it down.

For starters: a fully charged lead acid battery (AGM or flooded) will read 12.8 or 12.7 volts at rest, off the charger. It should not be drawn down below 50%, which is about 12.1v. At 11.4v it is essentially wiped out and likely is damaged.

So, only knowing that it was “12v+” is not precise enough. Also, the word disconnected is not precise enough: from shore power, use/store switch, real disconnect switch at battery???

First thing I suggest you do is pull the battery and take it to a place that can try to recharge/rehabilitate it.

Hi

Basic troubleshooting sequence:

1) Use your multimeter (yes you need to have one) to check the battery post voltage and the converter output voltage with no shore power present and nothing turned on. They should be identical.

2) Plug in to shore power.

3) Does the voltage at the converter go up? If not there is a converter problem

4) Does the battery voltage also go up? If not there is a connection problem

5) If you leave things on for 4 hours does the voltage get above 13 V? If not, there likely is a battery problem. (maybe)

Converter problem:

a) Could be a tripped breaker, always check that first. Toggle the breaker on and off.

b) Could be a faulty breaker, check the lug on the breaker with your multimeter to make sure it reads 120V AC.

c) Could be a broken wire from the breaker to the converter, check for 120V at the converter (this is really rare).

d) Could be a blown fuse on the input (if yours has one) or the output of the converter. Pulling them and checking them can be a bit of a pain.

e) Converter could be dead and need to be replaced.

Connection issue:

a) As noted above, the use/store switch might get in the act. Turns out they are wired a bunch of different ways. Still it is worth checking.

b) The cables from the converter to the use / store stuff could have come loose (also very rare).

c) The cables from the converter to the battery area might have an issue (also very rare)

d) The cable to the battery might not be hooked up.

While that all sounds a bit involved, it is doable on a DIY basis. That is not the same as saying that *everybody* should do it DIY. There is no shame in calling a pro and letting them sort it all out.

First of all, check the 2 30amp green fuses in your electric panel. If you may have touched the red cable to metal it will have blown one of those fuses.
2nd thing is covered because it charged while you drove home.

If one of those fuses are not blown, then replace the bottom half of your convertor and you will be fine.

Mike

I had the same problem on my 2018 19CB, after checking voltages, it was a bad converter.
