Has anyone tried or know anyone who has a Yamaha EF3000iSEB? It is rated for 3000 watts but will boost an additional 500 watts through it's own starter battery when and if an appliance needs the additional wattage on startup.

David,
I have a good friend who has the 3000 boost and camps with us quite a lot. He loves it . It is very very quite and does the job great. If and when I need to buy another generator, I would buy one in a minute.

Thanks Mike. It looks like a good unit and runs a long time on one tank. I'd rather have a slightly heavier unit I could still pick up rather than 2 of the Honda EU2000 units in parallel.

davidz71, you're lucky to be able to still call it slightly heavier. There was a time when I could've snatched the 175 lb fueled and oiled EF3000iSEB boost model up onto the 4WD tailgate, but these days, I'll stick to the 55 lb EU2000s one at a time, and call the boost model Yamaha a lot more than slightly heavier.

Dry weight is 151.8 lbs. and I wouldn't have it fueled up until I got it out of the back of the pickup. It is heavier rather than slightly heavier than the EU2000 as you pointed out. I'm 53 going on 28 and just bucking for a hernia.

BTDT, got the nylon reinforcement... on that side. 53 here too, but these days subscribe to the Clint Eastwood "a man's gotta know his limitations" philosophy. We just don't heal like we used to.

The doc said to be careful and not do any heavy lifting so I've tried to be careful. I have a defensive tactics class to teach the local P.D. and S.O this Friday so that ought to be interesting. "Easy on me guys, this is gonna hurt me more than it is going to hurt you."

A friend of mine is looking at running two Honda EU2000's in parallel. He already has one, just needs to purchase the other. Is there a reason you don't like the two in parallel, other than there's two to deal with?

I like the 2000s but my concern is the 20a plug. The coach has a 30a plug and we've been told on the forums that running the A/C unit off the 20a cheater is a bad idea (not to mention that now I have the 15k BTU Penguin on top of the coach). The 2000 does not have a 30a plug so again back to the 20a cheater? The 3000 has a 30a plug, but not enough kick to safely start the 15k BTU A/C unit, whereas two 2000s can safely start the 15k BTU A/C unit.

PS- The doctor told me not lift heavy things too....created a few problems when I had to go to the bathroom though.....

I just couldn't resist...call is blissful youth....

I wasn't happy with the prospect of two gensets even though I fell in love with the Honda 2000. I recently saw an add (during the power outage of hurricane Isabel) for a Honda EB3000 that weighs 68.4 lbs and has a noise level of 68 db. The price was right at just under $1000. I think it will do all I will ever need for my rig and it has to be a lot easier to live with than the Briggs and Straton 5500 that I use at the house.

The EB3000 is not an inverter generator. In addition to being louder at full speed, it runs at full speed all the time, where the inverters only need run as fast as the power demands. The output frequency is dependent on engine speed. When the AC kicks on and the engine slows, it's output frequency drops.

Thanks for the comments everyone. I have the original Bay Breeze 13,500 BTU AC so I was concerned that the Honda 3000 would not have the power to handle the surge but the Yamaha 3000iSEB might give me the edge I needed without going to 2 of the Honda EU2000 units. Yes they are light but what about total run time? Oh yea, I forgot the pictures of the extra gas can that was wired in for extended run time.

I'm not a big generator fan but I see a place from time to time to run one. I am also not a fan of Briggs & Stratton powered generators because I have tent camped and had someone crank one of the 5,000 watt units up more than a few times. About the time I finally get to sleep the thing shuts off and I wake up. The quiet units seem to lull me to sleep once I get used to them and with the proper size tank can run most of the night if need be. I know that you are probably going to say that I am inside the trailer now but my hearing is still sharp no matter what my wife says. I am also a really light sleeper.

Maurice, thanks for the info on the Yahama genset. To be truthful I did not do all the research that I should have done prior to purchasing my Honda. It was 90 degrees, my mother was staying with us, very limited power, high humidity, 20 trees down in the yard, shingles off the roof, rain damage in the house and a wife with a short fuse. I would have purchased a dozen coolies to turn a hand cranked generator if that would have made the situation more bearable. The local supplier was driving 1000 miles one way to pick up any brand of generator that he could find and was selling them at cost plus his traveling expenses. To pick up a Honda for 1000 bucks was at least 1/2 off the going price. The bad part was that I knew about the Yamaha ( I must be getting old the pretty girl carying the unit didn't even cross my mind). Being from a mechanical background instead of an electrical one I didn't take the workings of a generator into consideration. Electricity is magic, done with smoke and mirrors. Mechanical things I can see what is going on and have a much better understanding.

I just lost my post so will try again. At 74.2 hrs. on the Yamaha EF3000iSEB purchased April '06, I noticed that the pull starter rope was not retracted into it's compartment. I pulled it out a couple inches and it wouldn't retract. I did the same thing until it was pulled all the way out. I continued to run the generator during the weekend of deer hunting and then contacted Yamaha customer support to find a repair station. They called a Yamaha dealer 14 miles from my house who looked at the generator and found a cracked plastic case housing the recoil spring. They ordered the $22 part and repaired the generator within the next week. I ran the remaining gas out of the unit this afternoon and the meter showed over 93 hrs. run so far. Oil has been changed at 14.2 and 74.2 hours. I'm now running Amsoil 10W-30 synthetic in the generator as it is tucked away for the winter. I'm just another happy camper at this point.
