Yamaha EF 2200 IS

I am looking to buy a generator. I am zeroing in on the EF 2200 IS. 55 lbs, off button runs the fuel out of the carburetor, takes a 30 amp plug, reasonably priced, 57-65dba, fuel gauge etc. I have a Yamaha 1994 ATV, stills runs well, a 150 HP boat motor-runs like a champ. I guess I like Yamaha in general.

Anybody out there have this model, concerns, problems?? Can it be converted to propane? Thanks Big Red1

I have it. I like it, runs great. It powered my RV with one AC on with the easy start and without turning off everything else. I will put a caveat in on that though because I did not have the fridge on as my camper was in storage and this was a trial run. I like all the features and trust Yamaha. You can see the fuel level plus the other this you mentioned. I don't know about propane conversion but I would bet so. I say go for it, I did.

Have 2 ran them once for testing not needed them yet with out solar / lithium but ready for when I do. Have not found a propane conversion kit but didn’t look that hard.

I can't speak specifically of a EF 2200 but it looks like it covers all the bases in a nice way if you can find one. I had a Yamaha EF 2400 that was, like all Yamaha stuff I'd dealt with, superb. One issue I ran into when I boogered up the carb was parts were darn near impossibly to source and priced in the range of precious metals. In my case I found I rarely used the darned thing and could done just fine without if I didn't have it in the back of the truck. That and the EF 2400 weighed in at 75#s. Not an impossible weight to sling around but annoying. But the IS 2200 looks like a very nice option if you don't go Honda. If my current Champion loses it's position as the rarely used generator in the back of my truck, for whatever reason, I'l have to give the IS 2200 a close consideration.

Here is where we got our tri-fuel Yamaha 1000 a while ago:

https://www.ypngg.com/

. . . and the Yamaha OEM warranty remained intact.

We are still very happy with this lightweight and quiet unit, running conveniently on propane.

Yamaha 1000 search results here FYI: https://www.google.com/search?q=Yama...=airforums.com

Good luck,

I have a ES2000is using a motorsnorkle conversion kit which allows it to use gasoline, propane, or natural gas. These guys have done a lot of Yamaha conversions and I highly recommend them. https://motorsnorkel.com

As a Yamaha fan I was in same boat. Try experiment first…. Pick a small town… any town…. Try and find parts for Yamaha. Now try Honda EU series. Honda any part, in stock, Honda Power stores everywhere. Super cheap propane conversion kits (reversible) too. Needless to say went w 2 Honda EU2200s. Oh, yeah… before you buy, check out eBay/CL etc. for 4 year old Yamaha vs. Honda. That’ll tell you everything you need to know.

Im a yamaha guy as well. Sleds, 4 wheelers, boat motors but for the price I had to give the Champion 2500 dual fuel a try. Purchased 2 with the parallel kit at $550 each at Gander all set up for dual fuel to hard to pass up. Good reviews, friends have had champions with out issue. I have put them through the break in and changed oil to 5w30 full synthetic ams oil running them on gas. Both always started on 1 pull. 1 was a little finicky at idle at first but cleared up with break in. The other has been flawless. In wisconsin so not warm enough to test under load on our 2017 30 Int Scen RBT with AC yet. Have not tried propane yet. Running for 15 min after the oil change they were flawless.

Look at the Honda propane 2200 from Genconnex. I have/ LOVE Yamaha also...but this Honda is pretty nice unit. Can't go wrong with either...but propane is great.

I have had two Yamaha gennys with tri-fuel conversions from uscarb.com. since 2007. Never any repairs needed. They usually had sale deals and will do all the installations for you before shipping if you will ask.

I think in the end it was dealer network for me. Pick a propane genny any one of them out there. If your retailer has a shop out back, a shelf filled with OEM parts and they are actually working on your chosen brand… go for it. There are literally a dozen or so out there ranging from Wally World quality always on sale to top end units that make your wallet bleed. In other words, no right or wrong here just “does it work” and will it quietly run your a/c off grid. Go to a rally w/o electrical hook ups…. See what everyone else is using…. You spent a bucketload to have the best trailer made….stay with that logic and you won’t go wrong.

Bingo . . . excellent advice.

Our Yamaha 1000 was "mail order," because no local shops carried propane-fired gens at the time.

Yamaha versus Honda

I checked all around and the Yamaha that I wanted is not available until sometime this fall. So I went to the local Honda dealer and bought the EU2200i. The dealer put oil in it, a little bit of gas and fired it up for me. So Yamaha lost a sale! Big Red1

Thanks for the update . . . Hondas are great . . . we have an older 3500 and fairly new 2000 . . . in fact just ran them both yesterday . . . getting new gas in the red can this morning, with new Sea Foam additive.

All good.

Happy trails,

Peter

I was considering the Yamaha until I found out that the Yamaha 2200 engine is only 79cc. The Honda 2200 has a 121cc engine. I'm sure the Yamaha is great generator, but I think a larger displacement engine is better for this application.

If your still looking and want propane, suggest looking at the Honda 2200 offering from Genconnex...3 year warranty, certified dealer by Honda, and the propane conversion is all done inside the unit; no "clip on" after market looking type conversion...very slick. Customer service very good and they shipped to TX in couple days...called on some questions and they called me right back with answers. Sent me longer hoses and an altitude needle for use in the Rockies this summer. Runs my AC 15000 with the Easystart. Also will run my 13500 without the Easystart installed; only run one or the other at a time, but works great.

Check out the Chanpion 3400 dual fuel, for the price you cant go wrong. I only use propane, so much cleaner. This 3400 will run my whole trailer , 1500 BTU ac, no problem. It’s pretty damn quite compared to the Honda 2000

Duel Fuel

x2 on the Champion duel fuel. Propane conversion already built in. Only used propane with mine.

This is the experience that I have had with champion generators. My Father in-law has two Champion 2200, one of them stopped running to to old/bad fuel, his own fault. I went to pull out the carb to clean it, and it was a complete mess in the engine bay. I had to remove numerous hoses and brackets from both sides to finally pull off the carb. IMO they are horribly engendered and not service friendly, which explained the price. I own a Yamaha and my Son in-law has a Honda. Both of these units are easy to service due to good engineering and well with the extra cost. You will love that Honda, if I ever need to replace my Yamaha it will be with a Honda.

Can't go wrong with either the Honda or Yamaha 2200. I have the Honda Genconnex pair and like them a lot. Looked into getting a larger single 3000W plus unit, but could not really see the logic in getting something that was 30 lbs heavier (49lbs+49lbs vs 130lbs), (in fact too heavy for me to easily lift), had a lower continuous rating than the pair, and cost more to boot. Also like having the option of only carrying one when we know we won't really have to have A/C. Keep in mind that propane and altitude both reduce rated output vs gasoline and sea level.
