Solar panels
We are considering adding a solar panel to the roof of our 27' international,
How has this worked for others?

You'll find many threads on successful installations of solar charging systems. Use the search function. Many have had great success with the products specifically designed for the RV market by Welcome to AM Solar_Your RV Solar Specialists since 1987. They have been in the RV solar business for over 25 years and are really nice folks to work with.

Greetings, Marilynperl, and welcome to the Airforums! You'll find tons of info here about use of solar panels on Airstreams. And, as an added bonus, you'll find tons of Airstreamers right there on the east slope who regularly get together for rallies and other events!

Marylin: Your trailer may be pre wired for solar (I think the newer ones are). Like others have said, there are many threads on here about solar installations.

I've got two AM Solar panels on my roof, and it's the best thing I have ever done for my A/S. You've got plenty of roof space, so why not put it to work for you?
So long as you are not counting on solar to run your air conditioner, fridge or microwave, you can easily run the whole shebang on solar. Might take two panels, and plan on a couple of extra batteries. It's also reasonably important to try to reduce usage, so give some thought to how you use your trailer, and consider low-draw electrical items such as LED lamps for your interior lights, Fantastic Fan or Vent for air movement, etc.
Welcome to the Forums, and enjoy that Airstream!

We installed one panel to keep the batteries up and it has worked great. Worth the effort and expense IMHO.

Solar pre-wire provided by Airstream is only 10AWG and is not sufficient for anything over 1-2 panels. We are using 2AWG now in larger (6+ panels) installations.
