i have a 1960 Tradewind with no solar and boondock all the time with only a good sams club battery. We can go 4 days using battery for ball jack, propane refrigerator, fresh water pump, 12 volt lights.
Don't have or need AC, tv boondocking.

So, thanks again for all the suggestions from you folks. ~ Stephen Souris

Please do NOT pass that idea along ... use a generator transfer switch and potentially keep lineperson from being electrocuted!

Interlock on Service Panel

mefly2, Walt does mention after an electrician modifies the panel so I’m guessing he’s talking about an Interlock that prevents one from sending the generator current back on the grid but your point is valid.

We had our service panel upgraded and had the electrician install such a device. You have turn off the main breaker, disconnecting your panel from the grid before you can turn on a 30A breaker wired to the outside generator receptacle.

Works great and allows us to connect our Champion 3400 Dual-Fuel generator to the house if needed.

BTW, another benefit of the Interlock vs. a transfer switch is you can pick and choose which circuits you want to run off the generator compared to ones that are dedicated/hardwired to a transfer switch.
