Parallel not-alike honda eu series generators

Has anyone had any experience running an EU1000i in parallel with an EU2000i?

If it works I would like to know if it is enough to run the AC on a 2007 Int'l 25FB. I had talked to a honda dealer and he seems to think that it might work if I use the receptacles on the 2000 when they are connected together.

It would supposedly give me close to 20 AMPS which should be enough to do the job.

I am interested in the idea since having an EU1000i would be nice to use locally when we are not airstreaming.

Welcome from the Florida Panhandle

First off, welcome to the Forums. We're glad to have you with us.

I use two Honda 2000's in tandem on our 25FB to run the A/C. They do a good job at sea level, but at 5,000' and up they barely start the A/C. Also, I am not sure that the Honda 1000 is capable of being mated to a 2000 so that they can work together.

Also, keep in mind that if you can accomplish the 1000/2000 mating, you still need to power your converter even if you put your refer over to LP.

Brian

thanks for the warm welcome! I've been using the forum as a resource for awhile and finally got around to contributing to the discussions.

As far as the 2k+1k mating goes, I am assuming that since a eu3000i is enough to power the AC then it should provide enough to kick the compressor in.

Has anyone try to daisy chain not-aliked EU's? I am contemplating renting one just to trying out since I have not been able to find anyone who has tried it to confirm that it will or will not work for certain.

I to have pondered that idea. I have a Honda 2000 now and would like to use a 1000 with it for A/c. Please advise if you try it how it works. Thanks

Having been an EE major in College I can tell you any load over 2000Watts will over power the Eu1000. You will be restricted to 2000 Watts total not 3000Watts. In order to parallel units they have to bethe same size. Two 2000s work great. I have two and the are much easier to move that one 3000. Check the weights. I can hand carry a 2000 but not a 3000.

I think I will just have to try it to see if it works. It doesn'y sound like this is something anyone has tried. Thanks to those who are providing educated hypothesis but I am really looking for a definitely answer from those who are tried it.

I asked the same question last year and got a couple of answers not to try it. I can't remember what would happen, but the electronics in these things could be delicate and I'd advise you to check further on threads about generators before trying it.

If you decide to go ahead, please let us know where about a good shop to get generators repaired.

Hmmm...educated hypothesis...
I've never jumped off of a bridge, nor do I have any first hand knowledge of anyone who has. Still, something tells me that I shouldn't.
While I don't always agree with Michelle, She has a degree in EE and I'm willing to take her word for it. She has been doing the Airstream thing for a long time and provides a lot of valid viewpoints and opinions.
If money is not an object, why don't you test it for us and report back as to how everything functioned. And how much the repairs were.
Good luck.
Dave

The generators need to be in sync with their 60-cycle sine waves. Bridging the two generators may cause some bad 60-cycle stuff to be on the AC wiring and hurt the electronics of the air-condition and any other AC device turned on in the stream.

I’ve heard of this problem with a power company having two power substations feeding a community, and each from a different power source and each having a sine wave not in sync with the other. The power company tried to tie the power substations together and blew up fuses in the weaker substation because an out of sync 60-cycle AC issue.

It might work and be happy, and it be disastrous to electronics in the stream and-or the generator.

Interesting comparison. I have heard about people who jump off of bridged and the results have not been pleasant. Appreciate some of the folks in the forum who are genuinely willing to help and all of those suggestions are greatly appreciated (moosetags, thecatsandi, darlingbooks, many thanks ). not sure what the others get out of it...

Malimish, I'll appologize now.
I probably mis-read your earlier post, it seemed you were getting testy with the opinions you got. My bad.
Back to the question at hand...

I think that I can now settle this 1000/2000 issue.

I just placed a call to Hicklin Distributing in Grimes, Iowa (515-986-9557). I had purchased my 2 Honda 2000's and parallel kit from them over a year ago. They are a major Honda Dealer, and have excellent technicians who have always been able to answer my questions including rejetting for high altitude use. I spoke to Curt who is a nationally certified Honda Generator Tech. I asked him the question about mating a 1000 with a 2000. He told me absolutely not. He said that you would be running solely off the 2000, and that the 1000 would provide no power benefit, and would only be burning gasoline. He said that a 1000 can only be mated to another 1000.

We had a thread on this a year or so ago and it linked to some guys over on the Rv.net (if I remember correctly) that had done it. The trick was in the startup sequence.

A few folks did it and claimed success, a multitude hadn't done it and explained how it wouldn't work.

Where is 2Air's thread sniffing expertise when ya need it?
