Onan won't stay running

Just bought a '73 31' Sovereign. Onan "battery charger" wont stay running. Original, and not sure the last time it was run. Got it running by holding the fuel solenoid and using the pull start, but once i let go of the button, dead. The book says that the fuel solenoid will stay running if it is getting a charge. Just wondering if there is anything I could try before pulling it out and bench testing. Thanks

I also have one in my 73 excella which does not work and i have no manual what so ever,not sure if ill fix it or just take it out and use space for something else?

Now both of you know why Airstream shelved that generator project.

Everytime you change altitude, even as little as 1000 feet, the carb had to be readjusted.

It's just another one of those "great" ideas, that just didn't pan out.

No one that I know of, has ever come up with a permanent fix, not even Onan.
