A bit off topic, but may be useful info if you find yourself in a jam like this:
Last night a good size storm blew through and took out the house power.
No worries, the Generac standby generator kicked in as it should, so I dozed back off to sleep. That was until around 11PM when I heard the generator rev up and shutdown. Without going into details, it looks like the governor failed.
We can survive without power, but my basement wont. I keep 1 sump pump running 24/7 and 3 more as backups for higher water tables.
It was less than 15 min from when the generator failed and the water in the basement was just starting to flow onto the floor.
Out to the Airstream in my slippers, and cranked up the Onan 4.0. I ran a 12 gauge cord from there kitchen outlet (A 20 amp circuit) to a old transfer circuit in the basement and TaDa one sump pump was up and running. The water retreated with minimum cleanup.
The Onan ran for about 4 hours powering the sump pump, freezer and fridge.
It did fairly well except when the fridge came on at the same time as the sump pump, there was some seeking going on in the generator.
I turned up the temp in the fridge, and all was good.
