New member question about a Yamaha 2400 for a 25' Safari.

just purchasing our 1st trailer, a 2006 25' safari fb and need a generator.
is the yamaha 2400is adequate for this size airstream?

Many threads on this: search and ye will find.

I have a 2400is and it works fine for my 23' - BUT my trailer has but an 11.5k BTU A/C if I recall correctly ... so do read some of the threads here to see others' experiences with larger (maybe) current draw A/C units.

And ya' gotta' be careful what "adequate" means. It all depends. Mostly on what you want to / need to do. Your post says you "need" a generator ... hmmmm. If you just need to charge the batteries occasionally, a 1kw unit is fine. But if you want to run the A/C AND the Microwave AND a coffee pot, AND a hair dryer AND a television AND ... etc. you will need a small nuke plant!

First off, welcome to the Forums. We're glad to have you with us.

As to your question, we have a 25FB that we have pulled over 50,000 miles and spent almost 600 nights in. We use two of the Honda 2000's because we often need to use the air conditioner or heat pump.

The Yamaha 2400 would do fine without the air on, otherwise I don't know if it would have enough juice.

Also keep in mind that small generators don't provide full power when operated a high altitudes.

Hi, the Yamaha 2400 is rated to run a 13,500 BTU air conditioner. And the 15,000 BTU air conditioner has the same draw. My Safari has the 11,000 BTU air conditioner and my Yamaha 2400 will run the A/C, refrigerator, and converter. Some people elect to run their refridgerator on propane while running their A/C. [note: mine was at a high altitude while running my A/C, refrigerator, and converter]

The 2400is runs the AC unit (rated at 13,500 btus) on our 28 foot just fine, but not much else, maybe a few lights. Overall I really like the Yamaha and have been very happy. The Hondas work great to, I didnt want to deal with two of them and the additional wiring involved with running two of them, but lifting one Honda at a time is eaiser than the Yamaha. I am still happy with my choice, check them both out and choose what works for you.

Has anybody bought one of the Honeywell's from Costco? Its a 2000 and sells for only $449. I know its probably not as nice as the Honda, but its half the price!

It is also twice as loud.
Honda 2000 at idle = 53 db
Honeywell 2000 at idle = 62 db

we bought one from Home Depot in August 2009 (on sale, $299!!).

used it one weekend in Saratoga Springs, NY.

it was not strong enough to consistently start the Dometic 11KBtu AC on our rig without stalling half the time.

with one weekend of use on it, we sold it on CL to a fellow 3000 miles away who was willing to pay for the shipping!

obtw, no matter what all the printed Honeywell literature says, the Honeywell weighs 70 pounds dry, not 58, or whatever it says in the manual.

we deliberated some more over Honda vs. Yamaha, and size.

we replaced the Honeywell with a 2009 Yamaha EF2400is.

we like it a lot.

no sweat (pardon the pun) running the AC.

our neighbors really liked it when the power on their end of the block was out for 5 days, and then 3 more days in the winter and spring storms we had.

enough power to keep the furnace warm, the refrigerator cold, and a modest number of lights. they said it ran all day on one tank of gas.....

I'm told that the newer (2010) model is even nicer....

if I had to choose again, I'd still pick the Yamaha EF2400is over two Honda EU2000i strapped together.

It's been great! We can run the AC even in Dillon CO! Quiet and charges everything up fast. We have solar but the 2400 is a great back up and to run the ac. Low 80s today and I wanted a nap!
