Thumbs up Honda Eu2200 runs Air Conditioner

I just hooked up my new Honda EU2200 generator to run the AC. My Flying cloud 30 (2015) has 1350 and 1500 BTU AC units. The new Honda will start and run either one! I tested this at Sea level. I am using propane with the Hitch Mountain conversion hooked to the Airstream low pressure port. My inline ammeter showed 1,580 watts runing the 1350 unit. The fan drew about 500 watts and the AC motor bogged the generator for an instant before rpms were right back up. I was able to run with eco throttle on and the engine ran at less than full throttle. The Honda is rated at 1,800 watts continuous. Interestingly, the 1500 unit drew less—1,550. Go figure? Apparently the standard Dometic soft start is satisfactory for this combination. I am very pleased with this.

Hello
Are you able to get your honda propane generators to run both A/C?
I have had issues at running the 2 honda generators on propane and having enough power to cool my 30 foot airstream. I ended up buying a larger generator but it is too noisy, would love to go back to the 2 honda generators and run in tandem but appears they will only run one air-conditioner.

With two 2000W Hondas running on propane I can run both ACs only when at sea level. Both ACs have the Easystart.

I could upgrade to the 2200 Hondas but not until I hear some success stories at 5000 feet.

I was testing my two 10 year old 2000's today for the first time:

My camper is a 21 27'GT FBT, 2 AC's, both AC's have soft-starts on them. The gens are running on non-eth gas. When running just one gen it would run either AC, but just one and it would never get off of full throttle (wouldn't go to eco-throttle). When I was running both gens, they would power either AC or both at the same time and would both move to eco-throttle.....My plan is, I will always carry one gen in case of emergency and two only when we are dong a planned boon-docking trip.

East start / Honda propane 2200 at 7k feet

At Mancos Colorado (around 7,000 feet) - started propane generator (with genconnex high altitude orafice). Temperature was 88 inside the airstream. Generator ran AC equipped with east start - 2020 globetrotter) and after 45 minutes felt “some” cool air. Wife called knock it off when the outside temp was cooler. Observations: waiting to start AC (late afternoon - airstream in sun) probably to blame plus 7, 000 feet also asking a a lot. Will try again later before trailer heats up.

Also - ran in eco mode and out of eco mode. Even out of eco mode generator would “almost” stall about every 10 minutes.

Btw: Excellent for battery charging! I have wet cells and just an hour or two is all I need.

If the generator is running the AC should be operating normally. Airstream are hard to cool in the sun and your descriptions sounds like a normal situation with a single AC running. Unless the AC compressor was noticeably slower sounding, the generator did its job.

I think you are right on. I did turn off the converter and it seemed to help the running of the generator (ran pretty good) so that makes sense.
Thanks for the reply!

I need to back up on this post. I'm not sure what is different , but I tried to run both my AC's (separetely , of course) and neither one would work with just one 2000. I was trying it this morning. I was at the same location, so elevation doesn't play in, same type of gas. Both AC's did the same things. I turned on the AC, I could hear the gen rev up, then the compressor would kick in, and the gen would rev really high and kick over into overload (red light). I don't know, it worked before.

Both of my ACs have Easy Start. They will run with my eu2000 Hondas at 75 degrees. At 85 degrees or higher, NOPE. So I have to go back to running 1 AC on 2 eu2000 Hondas.
Lesson learned.

Can you run your electric refrigerator as the same time?

I am thinking about purchasing the 2200i. We have a 2020 27FB with the electric only refrigerator. My question is can you run one 13500 AC and the electric refrigerator at the same time?

I'm probably going to say that word no-one wants to hear: DEPENDS.

I have found alot depends on temperature for me, sometimes I can run one, sometimes I need two.

The simple solution for me is to carry both my generators and don't worry about it.
