Make a point of using it regularly. Even with a propane generator you should still "exercise" it at least once a month for about half an hour. If you don't run it that often, moving parts do not stay lubricated properly, and you will experienced increased wear and harder starting when you do eventually run it. Generators can suffer from neglect even if they don't have "stale" gasoline in them.
So if you don't have a reason to use your generator—
any generator— at least that often, you should make up excuse to use it. Use it to run an air compressor to air up your tires, whatever, as long as you don't just let it sit for months on end.
