Generator Question (one more time)

Greetings Honorable Airstream Owners:

I understand the process of running two generators in parallel.

Can you run two different sizes of generators?

For example: Parallel a Honda 1000 with a Honda 2000?

Wouldn't you have a problem with some of the electricity from the 2000 watt feeding back to the 1000 watt and damaging it?

Is there a big enough price difference in the 2K and 1K to make it not desireable to have two 2K's? With the two 2's you would certainly have enough to power the A/C at start-up, but I would think with the 1K and 2K in parallel you might be marginal when the A/C starts-up.

I tend to agree with MM. My initial knee jerk is to say no. However Balrgn has done both with no problem. I checked several web sites that sell the hondas...none mention mixing on a parallel. But they are in the business to sell them. I'll check with my brother...and old former card carrying electrician. In the mean time, I'll keep quiet and agree with MM. The price difference ot the 1000 vs 2000, to me isn't worth the chance.

There have been several discussions about this on RV.net and the consenses is that it can and has been done.

I humbly defer to balrgn. After much deliberation and , no doubt a small JD & Coke, my brother the ex-expert electrician called and agreed...it can be done and should not be a problem. He did, however think parallelling two of the same size might be better, expecially two 2000's, given the relatively small price difference. Thanks, learned something, as always.

Has anyone tried loading the mismatched pair beyond 2000W and actually measured it? I could be wrong, but I suspect that beyond that, the EU1000 may go into overload about the time the EU2000 is putting out half capacity. Maybe not.

I will go one step further: Can a Honda EU1000 be parallel connected to a Honda EU3000? I have both and sometimes wish I'd bought two EU2000s as the aircon makes the 3000 cut out if set on high for too long. I bought the 1000 for small uses like when on my Catalina 25 anchored in Mission Bay, CA during the annual Christmas lights parade.....and running my power tools while camping in remote locations...etc.
