Just ran across a deal on a generator and need some help. A friend of mine told me of this 3500 watt generator he knew was for sale and sounded like a good deal, $175 and four years old but had only been run for about 5 hours. They had bought it to run the heat in the house after a winter storm knocked out their power and have not used it since. my friend brought it over and we tried hooking to the camper to see if it would run the a/c. As soon as we turened on the A/C it killed the generator. I know that it should run the A/C but I have a berring going out on the fan but it runs on shore power so I didn't think it could be the A/C. I am going to bring home my Amp meter tomorrow to make sure.
Could the generator be week if it has not been run for a while? can that be fixed?
You did not mention the brand or model of the generator so it is hard to say. My guess is that it has two different sets of outlets that equal 3500 watts, but each only provide 1750 watts. That would not be enough to run the AC unit.
