Does anyone know how big of a generator we would need for a 64 overlander?

Hi and welcomr to the forums.

There's about a bazillion threads on this and they express a bazillion opinions.

If you only need to recharge the coach batteries a Honda eu100 has you covered. Light and cheap.

If you want to run A/C, Microwave, refrig etc all at the same time most folks opt for 2 eu2000's in parallel. eu2000's are still light and easy to move around.

If you want to just run the A/C or Microwave. A Honda eu3000 will do the job but it weighs 180 lbs.

The thing the majority of Members agree on is. Use Honda or Yamaha gensets.

Both are very reliable with a long use life and also of importance they are very quiet. Thus you and your neighbors are not irritated by the racket of a discount genset.

The EU3000 weighs 144 lbs, otherwise everything GoinCamping said applies.
(It's still heavy, I have one)

It should be mentioned that noise pollution makes generators fall into 2 categories: 1. more and 2. less obnoxious. There is a universal law the more obnoxious something is the cheaper it is. Inverter generators generally fall into category #2 although those who find any noise not of the birds and bees when camping should be in category #1. Honda makes generators on both ends of the obnoxious continuum. Surprisingly a 3000 eu is quieter than its less powerful little brother the EU 2000 which I have. The 2000 weighs about as much as my wife's make up case while the 3000 is hernia material. I also find I really need to use a generator a lot less than I anticipated. I just got back from a month on the road spent about 50% of the time in campsites without electric hookups and only used it once. Unless you plan to do extended boondocking it may not really be necessary.

FYI- Just about all campsites restrict generator use to early morning and late afternoon.

I'm wishing I would have spent the extra $300 bucks and bought the two Honda 2000 with the parallel kit ...much more maneuverable than 3000 which seems to get heavier everytime I try to move it. We also have only used it maybe twice in the the last year and a half.
