Easy start

Anyone have any experience with the Soft start that is on the market compared to Easy start?,,,the soft start seems somewhat less expensive on line these days and comes with an installation kit included

Search:

"How reliable is the Easy Start?"

In the blue box at the top of the page.

Thumbs up

. . . or "Soft Start" --

https://www.google.com/search?q=Soft...=airforums.com

Recent thread: https://www.airforums.com/forums/f44...fb-205057.html

That blue search box works best using the desktop version of this site, apparently, and not as well using the App, from what folks have said IMO. You can also do a standard Google search and add the parameter "site:airforums.com" to the search, to limit results to posts on this site.

Cheers,

Peter

Easy start

Hyper engineering manufacture the “Sure Start”. They OEM to dometic who re-label and brand the unit as the “Smart Start”.

The “soft start” is a new entrant in the market. It may be OEM’d by hyper engineering, but it’s unclear at this time who actually manufacture it, country or origin, development roadmap, sustainability of the company, reliability of the product, etc.. it is my understanding that the developer of the unit is a former MicroAir employee.

All of these units fundamentally work in a similar fashion - inside the box is a capacitor and a hardware board that limits and controls current ramp. The sophistication comes in the logic and software capabilities built into the control board.

None of the above units are as advanced (software wise) as the EasyStart by MicroAir. MicroAir has the ability to learn the characteristics of your particular compressor motor winding to optimize ramp current, and has fault protection for low and high voltage, amongst other features. It doesn’t just ramp the current, it actually protects the AC unit against various fault conditions.

The MicroAir EasyStart is the gold standard and is very well supported from a customer experience perspective.

Just buy the MicroAir EasyStart. Great product with great customer service. If they had a t-shirt I would buy it.

Even if I thought the Soft Start was the same thing and it cost half as much I would still buy the Easy Start based on their reputation and service and seeing them at the international rallies. And the fact that mine has worked fine for 4 years. And the fact that no one has reported frying an AC with an Easy Start.

One more glowing endorsement of Microair's EasyStart!

Easy start

Also important to realize that the two are not even close to identical. MicroAir’s product provides a lot more protection to the compressor during start and run. It also learns the exact compressor startup characteristics as part of the install process.

Soft Start is apparently a much less functional knock-off product.

I’ll stay with the EasyStart I already have.
